Singapore to run Pakistani Gwadar port from 2007
ISLAMABAD, Dec 23 (KUNA) - The Pakistani government has decided to give the management control of Gwadar deep-sea port to Port of Singapore fromnext year, said press reports Saturday.
Citing Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping, Babar Ghauri, reports said Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Friday approved a summary to hand over the management of Gwadar port to Port of Singapore.
"We have formed a committee which will negotiate with Port of Singapore and within 15 days the port would be handed over to them," Ghauri said, adding that Arabian Sea port was expected to be in operation in March.
The port has been developed and about 75 percent of it finance by the traditional ally China. When asked why the close ally was not given management control, the Minister said that China did not apply for it when international tenders were called, said reports.
