Nearly 8% reduction in electricity tariff for first quarter

SINGAPORE : Households and businesses in Singapore will enjoy cheaper electricity tariffs for the period January 1 to March 31 next year.
Singapore Power says tariffs will be reduced by an average of 7.53 percent or 1.62 cents per kilowatt hour during the three months.
The reduction is due to lower electricity costs resulting from lower fuel prices.
Singapore Power says electricity tariffs are reviewed quarterly, and reset, if necessary. - CNA /ls -

This month so much rain water. They must consider lower our water bill leh. This month my PUB bill S$98 for a 3 rm flat w/o aircondition. Expensive man. Think I must cut down on my online time.

aiya...next quarter they just revised the tarrifs upwards by 10%, earn back liaoz. this reduction is for interest first...make you happy. next quarter we see....

Crude oil dropped from high of US$78 during the lebanon war to current US$62, a drop of 20.5%...
what about the profits made during the past quarters when the prediction of a higher crude oil prices did not materialise but went to down instead to as low as below US$60 per barrels at some points... -
what coincidence, after some one wrote to the st forum questioning why no reduction despite lower oil prices...now they have this....goes to show the right to question is indeed divine.....

Natural Gas Trade In The Market Without Government Subsidies.
Current Spot Price for Natural Gas NYMEX (02 Dec 2006).
USD 10.77/MMbtu
1 MMbtu = 1,000,000 btu
1 Kwh = 3413 btu
1,000,000 btu / 3413 btu = 292.99 Kwh
USD 10.77 X 1.56 = SGD 16.80
which means SGD 16.80 will produce 292.99 Kwh of electricity. I am not sure what is the process loss (of if there is any) during the conversion from natural gas to electricity, but let's say it's 10%. So we end up with (292 Kwh X 90%) = 263.69 Kwh.
If you divide the cost of SGD 16.80 by the 263.69 Kwh, you get:
6.37 cents/Kwh as compared to 21.64 cents/Kwh for Singapore Power

We can have a process loss during conversion of up to 50% and still make a hefty profit when we sell at 15 cents/Kwh.
292.99Kwh x 50% = 146.50Kwh
SGD 16.80 / 146.50 Kwh = 11.47 cents/Kwh (with 50% conversion loss)
It's a cut, but it's not significant, peanuts by comparison. -

We Sinkaporeans were taken for ride!!!
PowerGrid based on assumption that the future oil price would rise and therefore increased tariff of electricity before last quarter of 2006.
I wonder why and How the fark they (PowerGrid) made such a careless assumption or prediction. Wouldn't that was a shame for our Nation?
To prove their efficiency to lau lee or loong loong to claim credit?
Haven't PowerGrid had made more than enough profits over the years...? Why PowerGrid have to do such stupid and inhumane decision at the expense of us, sinkaporeans? What logic....is this?
Even if the oil prices had risen and beyond their ''prediction or assumption''......haven't they got enough time to adjust the tariff of electricity....
In anyway...do we have other alternative of power supply beside PowerGrid.
Why you PowerGrid have to act so inhumane and irresponsibly and at the expense of us!!! fark you!!!
