Do you agree with such a statement? (Maybe we can apply it in even broader context, to GST and Service Tax and stuff like that, especially with the increase of GST to 7%, which many, including myself personally, say that it is an unwise move.) -
Well, if I'm the government, I'd tell you that you are making a living off my land, benefitting from the infrastructure which I have built over the decades, and hence it is fair you pay Income Tax.
But what I cannot understand, is the stupid TV & Radio License!!! -

The prices of housing has risen from my mum's time 28 years ago by about 13 times. SInce property is hedged against inflation, does that mean the inflation rate is about 10% per year?
