They come all the way here, spend close to almost whatever savings they have, because they want to succeed. When you have the hunger, the desire and the passion to succeed in a foreign land, you will definitely do whatever it takes to succeed. That's why you see these Chinese people having the correct attitude and service. Singaporeans basically want to be served well, but do not want to treat other people well. That basically is where it has gone all wrong for us.Originally posted by tehconi:to be fair, i find that the chinese salespeople working in shops here have better service attitude than our locals. they are more proactive and service-oriented, unlike our locals who are passive and tend to think that they are king not the customer. if i own a kopitiam or shop, i may prefer to hire chinese as salesperson because they sell better than locals.
if what you say is true i am sure those chinese office workers should be just as good. base on this fact alone our people will soon lose jobs to them in every sector.Originally posted by tehconi:to be fair, i find that the chinese salespeople working in shops here have better service attitude than our locals. they are more proactive and service-oriented, unlike our locals who are passive and tend to think that they are king not the customer. if i own a kopitiam or shop, i may prefer hiring chinese salesperson because they sell better than locals.
if you've visited china before, you'll notice that the sales people stick to you like crazy. its the same culture that they bring with them over here.

What are the real benefits that these ppls from a third world country bring to our country besides taking away our poor fellow sillyporeans' jobs and suppress their wages????Originally posted by nanren4ever:They come all the way here, spend close to almost whatever savings they have, because they want to succeed. i won't say thats the same for the chinese office workers. when it comes to office work, its another ball game altogether. its common to hear of the chinese good at just talk but no work, dragging feet at work.Originally posted by dragg:if what you say is true i am sure those chinese office workers should be just as good. base on this fact alone our people will soon lose jobs to them in every sector.
lets assume it is true does that mean that we should just let them do it?
i agree with you. maybe a minority do hv a geniune affection for our country, i can't say. personally, i hv met chinese students bad-mouthing and sarcastically poking fun at sporeans all over. from our red dot size, to our bilingualism which is "neither here nor there", to our "silly chinese phrases" which are used incorrectly, to our stupidity as in Li Ao's idiotic comparisions of sporean/hongkee/taiwanese/chinese.....Originally posted by ShutterBug:Ladies and Gentlemen, we are just a Stepping Stone to all the PRCs you see in Singapore.
You think we can "ride the tiger"?Originally posted by oxford mushroom:Do you know which were the four top cities in Asia outside of Japan before WW2? Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok...
If not for the civil war and years of communist mismanagement, the top financial centre in this part of the world will not be Tokyo and Hong Kong, but Shanghai. The Chinese economy is a tiger that was kept in a cage...the door is now open...
The question is: can we ride the tiger or end up its prey?
Let me address this.Originally posted by ghimpheng:why are there so many China pple coming to singapore ???
will they be competing us for jobs ?
Our currency is still the same why last time so less china pple come to singapore but now like flooded like that
You should buck up and improve your productivity. If they can generate $200 of business a day, you must do do $250. If they work 50 hours a week, you have to do 55hours.Originally posted by dragg:if what you say is true i am sure those chinese office workers should be just as good. base on this fact alone our people will soon lose jobs to them in every sector.

is that why you are working overseas?Originally posted by oxford mushroom:You should buck up and improve your productivity. If they can generate $200 of business a day, you must do do $250. If they work 50 hours a week, you have to do 55hours.
Yes, if we cannot measure up to them, we deserve to lose our jobs.

First of all, you cannot compete with China in terms of labour cost, our labour cost will definitely be much higher than theirs, unless you intend to have a mass influx of China mainlanders to displace all the locals.
No matter how much mainlanders you bring in, our labour cost will still be higher than China, because we have higher cost for electricity, rentals, water, etc. I just found out that their electricity is about $0.10 per Kwh, as compared to our $2.00 per Kwh.
It's stupid for the ministers to compete on labour cost with China, it's better to pursue a system like the Germans or Swiss, where the pursuit of engineering excellence is instilled in all the citizens, through these excellence you can command a higher price for your product (watches, cars, etc), which the Chinese can't compete with in the short run.
MINISTERS ARE STUPID, THEIR MILLION DOLLAR SALARIES ARE NOT JUSTIFIED, COMPETING WITH CHINA IN TERMS OF CHEAPER LABOUR COST, YOU WILL NEVER WIN AT LEAST NOT IN THIS LIFETIME.
