Singaporeans are already venting their frustration on our new residents (eg PRC).. just look at the level of resentment online and in real-life.
Our one-party govt has yet to realise it's taking the wrong approach by expecting to make a change while refusing to budge from on their ivory thrones. There must be a .. ahem.. balance.. between "benefit" from the citizens' point of view and the govt's point of view.
It is sowing alot of seeds of hate on the ground by blocking out the voice of the majority in the mainstream media (it's not what they want to hear) and doing what it wants against its own ppl's will.. Asking us if we want to take our "medicine" now or later is not even an option.. it should be "Do you think this medicine is right for us?"
Govt and people have to work together to come up with a real solution - one cannot survive without the other. We do not need "Gods" in our government. Will our citizens have to resort to riots to have a say in how this country is run? It would be so sad that we would have to fight for this basic right as citizens of a "first world" country. -
A few weeks ago, Sunday Times reported the results of a survey concerning S’poreans’ perceptions of foreign workers in Singapore. While workers from India, M’sia and Philippines were deemed by S’poreans to be ‘hardworking’, ‘honest’ & ‘intelligent’, China workers didn’t fare as well. S’poreans thought that workers from China are ‘hardworking’ but ‘rude’ & ‘greedy’.
No point contesting the survey results because from the people IÂ’ve spoken to, SÂ’poreans do indeed detest the uncouth behaviour of the many China nationals working here. ItÂ’s easy to see why: China nationals are frequently seen spitting in public, speaking very loudly, jumping queues, shoving their way through crowds.
But kindly let me hold up a mirror to these nitpicking S’poreans. It was only 2-3 generations ago when our Chinese ancestors came to Singapore to make a living. They too were poor, not well-educated and, having come straight from rural villages, uncouth. I’m sure my ancestors came to Singapore and they too spat in public, spoke very loudly, jumped queues and shoved their way through crowds. Yet the people of S’pore gave them a chance to make a living here, and many today have come a long way socially from the ‘peasants’ that their great/grandparents were.
So, while SÂ’porean Chinese have snobbish and are making fun of these contemporary China immigrants to SÂ’pore, let us be reminded, and indeed be humbled, by our similar early beginnings. -

Compare Singapore with Japan: Singaporeans generally spit, litter, drive like maniacs but the Japenese are much more civic minded. the younger generation of singapore are actually much better....
i am ok with PRCs, i mean, those who are rude and uncouth probably are those who are quite lowly educated and are here mostly as construction workers. the PRCs i have interacted are either students, teachers or professionals who are here to earn for a living~ -

to me, japanese has not really woken up and still " at the beginning" WHY? because world war II is "NOT" too long ago and there are still many people who are alive and has gone thru world war II. and the fact dat they do not want to admit to their own history, it is so sad, having committing babaric acts and refuse to admit.

I have some China schoolmates. Sometimes when i was sitting in front of them, i can see them gesturing and talking very loudly when they are just sitting beside one another. This if close one eye still can accept, some singaporeans do tt anyway.
But one thing that is totally unacceptable is that they criticise about EVERYTHING!
They criticise about the food saying that they always eat different food daily back in china. The clothings here are very ordinary and have no taste. The country is very small and is preventing them from nuturing their talent(as if they have). Talk about how bad the attitude that singaporeans kids have and all that. Also claiming that the academic level here are very easy and are simply peanuts.
And just when they have said all these, i gathered the following:
1) In china, there are very little foodcourt or place where all different types of food can be ordered at the same time. Talking about variety, i think we can win them easily with just one hawker centre. They only have an eatery which sells a speciality or all of the same type of cuisine.
2) I went to china before and dont see any extroadinary clothings or anything different from what singaporeans wear. (except winter wear). All wear jeans and shirts.
3) Small and cannot nurture their talents. If they have the talent, they would have already flourish in china given its current status and the rate of its expansion.
4) Ta ma is their most frequently use words when they just arrive, after a few months, those mispronounced hokkien vulgarities became their jia chang bian fan. They accused singaporeans teenagers of being unfilial to their parents when i heard them criticising their parents about something to do with wealth.
5) Easy and peanuts academic levels. They are among the last position in the whole cohort. Besides, they are usually older than the average singaporean student by 1 to 3 yrs. So what makes them qualified to condemn the education system? -
I say bring more PRCs in...I say bring in more Indians and FTs from all over and make the local Sillyporeans uncomfortable....
This is the way life is going to be and no one can change it. It is called globalization...Now with Sillyporean leaders going to Middle East and even Iran now....let all the Middle Easterners come....let them all come and let them bring with them their culture, both the good and bad parts...let Sillyporeans learn from them cause frankly, I'm sick and tired of the arrogance of the local populace....thinking that just because they can afford a car, a condo, got a good paying job.....they can just throw their weight around....
Just look at all the ST forum letters in the papers today...about all the bad habits of Sillyporeans on the road, in the queue, at the buffet spread, in education....esp the RJC crying over 4 As only saga....let all Sillyporeans suffer by bringing in more FTs..always believed that there is no improvement if there is no suffering....no pain no gain is what I always say....
Like many of us and myself included that have already migrated to make a better life for ourselves....likewise let all these foreigners come in to make a better life for themselves...let's get real, I'm sure these foreigners come here to seek a better life....no comes to Sillypore to seek a worse life than what they already have...
Let all the PRCs, Indians, Bangladeshis, Taiwanese, Honkies, Indons and Malaysians come in....
Next wave is to let the Russians, Middle Easterners, Iranians in
I can forsee the next wave, Sillypore gahmen will sign trade treaties with African nations.....now its the African footballers here, next we should all let the Africans in here to make a better lfe for themselves....
Sillypore will then truly be international and not just the 4 races in Sillypore...you will have Koreans, Japs, Russians, Eastern Europeans, Africans, even South Americans like Mexicans, Guatemalans, Brazilian(then we can have brazilian PRs to play football)...

but the key word is that immigrants will have to come here and MAKE a better life. So are those who migrated out of Singapore, MAKE a better life for yourself. Don't wait for government handouts.
With new immigrants coming into Singapore, hopefully in the future we have more people who are more daring in many changes in the society, especially in the political scenario. -

Bottomline is that I will tell all the weak whiners in Sillypore to shut their gabs and start working either hard or smart.
Yes I do admire our forefathers' generations as they were the tough lot, coming here to start a new life from scratch, you could beat them up but you could never kill them, they would just come back even more determined.
Its just like many of us, including myself who have left, we have tasted adversity or have worked hard to deserve a better life elsewhere, we know that not everything is clean and green and nice here, not even in where we are currently, whether it be the US, Aust or elsewhere....
Like it or not, current Sillyporeans had better wake up their ideas and strive to match the FTs and I have no doubts they can. Its the whiners that I cannot stand, asking the gahmen to do this and do that and protect them, I'd ask them to go jump the lake....I'd rather the gahmen help the really downtrodden like the old people collecting cardboards....
Like it or not, the children of today's PRCs, Indians, African, Russians, Bangaldeshis, Malaysian, Indons will become the citizens of Sillypore in the future, just like how the children of us who have left Sillypore will become the citizens of China, US, Aust, Canada...and we are proud of that....

End of the day, China chinese and Singapore chinese are all chinese.
At least they are hardworking (but not presentable and don't know how to be nice to others)
Try indian nationals. I have dealt with many of them. Those are even more irritating. Those I have met, quite a number are lazy, pretend to be smart (talk a lot a lot, everything say "YES, I KNOW", when in fact he doesnt know), and happily start preparing a new resume the moment they hit Singapore
Not to say I have not met good Indians (in fact, several frens are from India), but those that I dealt with commercially (they are called consultants), many of them like to brag a lot.
In fact, I heard of one indian woman whom had access to govt HR data whilst doing consultancy project in a ministry, and was heard laughing how low our pays are.
I rather deal with a China chinese that don't know how to package himself, than an India Indian that likes to brag -

Just coz one person did something bad doesn't mean you can condemn the entire race.

I hear stereotypes of Singaporeans as arrogant, conceited, and ignorant (it is the last one that saddens me). We think the world of ourselves, when in fact, we are just a small little dot. If we don't wish others to think of us like that, maybe we should start changing ourselves first. -

SINGAPORE : The man allegedly responsible for the murder of a restaurant supervisor at Raffles City Shopping Centre on Saturday has been charged in court.
43-year-old kitchen assistant Wang Zhe Jin, a Chinese national, is now under police custody and his case will be mentioned in court next week.
Wang is said to have murdered his restaurant supervisor, 25-year-old Tan Guan Wha.
Tan died from a stab wound to the chest.
Tan's body was brought back to his Marsilling home on Monday afternoon.
