if you run a profitable business entity, u r paid ur $, if u r running a country u r paid wi gratitudes and honours, what's wrong wi that? as if monies are everything to life, there's more than just dollar and cent, is that what a country should be?... tell me, how many of our gahmen people can earn Clinton's pay after his presidency, so what is so deserving about them in $ worth? for that matter, how many of them can run a profitable business if they are given that chance.. don't forget >95% of new businesses fail within the first few years of their operations. if as advocated by the likes of mushroom in their arguments then we MUST do away with volunteerism, then all Singaporean will be $ richer... just for measure, can any of our top guns start/run a risky biz like air asia? & why ain't them the first?

Hey guys, I think the issue is not whether public service should be paid less or more. If the fellow is doing his job well, I would say pay the bugger well... keep him if he is an asset.
However those with experience in the public sector will agree that some in the middle-higher management honchos don't deserve what they are getting. I won't talk about the highest level because most people don't get to see what they are doing.

No one will ever know whether they deserve it. Is coming up with ideas like more ERP gantries a fantastic idea that deserves a pat on the back? Were there any other alternatives? Profit making perhaps, but to be in the civil service means putting the general public's interest in mind too. Setting up gantries after gantries is not solving the problem!!!
Who judges whether this top dogs are doing their job? You? Me? Are they really top dogs? Who knows? -
Oh. I noticed those high up in the public service are top scholars. Does being a top scholar equate being a top talent? Notice many billionaires are not grads... but yet this are the people who contribute tremendously to the economy, not some top scholar seeking paper after paper...
Wonder is our Singapore government pushing for the wrong kind of talents. -
