You cannot blame our local reporters/journalists. The mass media is fully controlled by the PAP and any reporter nuts enough to challenge them will be crushed by the Lee family. The problem is not with our reporters, the problem lies with the ruling party.Originally posted by bila_prem:I think ST writers have no balls. It is no wonder they never land anywhere further than BBC or CNN or even in Australia where journalism and press are open and there is a form of free speech.
Change has to come from the bottom. I wonder..what will it take for en masse resignation..Originally posted by av98m:You cannot blame our local reporters/journalists. slowly but surely such reporting will harm their own credibility.Originally posted by kilua:no NKF incident doesn't mean ST doesn't have agenda to give biased reporting.
My guess for ST editorial agenda is
1. Report about every political hula boo of of other countries. This makes other countries political system look bad and Singapore's good. Even one of the safest country like Japan feel more dangerous than Indonesia because their news give regular coverage to crimes.
2.Minimize reporting about countries that have done better than Singapore. For example, Taiwan's transports system - Taiwan's MRT and bus fares are both cheaper than us. The taiwan government has did not raised the cost of electricity cost for 26 years
3.Systematically compare with Third world countries and say that we are so lucky to have 3 meals and a roof compared to these third world countries.
3. Repeat core propaganda message regularly and make them sound that they are carefully thought out. For example if there was no GRC everyone would vote for their race and blah blah blah = racial riots. The truth is Singapore's opposition JB Jeyaretnam, won in a Chinese majority ward.
The trick to propaganda is to repeat it enough times and they become the "truth".
yeah i agree that internet would posed a challenge in future. Come to think of it, i was young an impressionable pro-pap supporter till i had access to other views on the internet. Morever there werent any means to discuss any issues i disagree with.Originally posted by qpicanto:slowly but surely such reporting will harm their own credibility.
With the advent of the internet used by informed voters, with an open mind, such tactic is starting to lose its effectiveness.
Even with supposedly entertaining shows on Channels 8 drama, one can look up for sponsors like MCYS, MDA etc if u wish to be spared of the propanganda.
Had NKF decided not to sue , NKF would probably be running under the same old management..Originally posted by oxford mushroom:Haha...have people forgotten so soon that it was the Straits Times article that exposed the NFK debacle? The govt made its strong presence in the media industry by appointing former DPM/ current member of the ruling party at the top post, signaling a lack of political will for media liberation any time soon.
SPH is the mouth of the government. would they let anyone slap their own mouth?Originally posted by oxford mushroom:Haha...have people forgotten so soon that it was the Straits Times article that exposed the NFK debacle?
