Be be thankful, that u still have a roof on top of ur head, enjoying 3 meal.. juat think how more people of other nations can do it? Is there a way for us to promote hiring of locals?
I view this solution as an individual/company choice. If they choose to be pro-local it wont be a problem.
The thing is on the lower wage end - (our neighbours) demand less wages
on the higher wage end - companies wants only the best their $$ can buy.
So...are we caught in the middle? Comments please.
Solutions will be better i suppose.
The basic way to promote hiring local is limit the import foreigner from certain specialisation which singaporeans can do.
If companies just compete on wages cost only then singaporean will definitely not on their radar map. These factories could be better off to thailand, malaysia, indonesia.
those who choose to stay to enjoy our low tax, harmonous tripatite, good biz environment, political stability, hardworking and high productiity staff should be prepare to pay premier salary.
what good will be make if we attract some company to set up a service ccenter employ 50 staff, half is foreigner. those singaporean employ with their salary benchmark against foreigners. will their live become better? yes better than jobless just to meet end needs? how about their future? those who really benefitted are those senior manger, GM employ by these company.
i hope our govt can look at the compassionate side of things. do more for the poor. increase of GST of 2 %to help the poor , yes, that good. but dont take us for a fool. these billions of extra income and make every poor in singaporean hundreds of thousands dollar richer. most of the GST increase is use for govt expenditure which we should have stronger control.
true blood singaporean.

My place, there's an very lady collect old furnitures, newspapers and etc. I always stack up my old stuff, newspapers, magazines and placed at my entrance for her.
My last visit to China....I don't old people doing that. Every morning I saw hundreds old people doing TaiChi....evening time play chess.
When I recall this....I felt poor and old age singaporeans are really pathetic......

hey hey! long time no hear from u lehOriginally posted by nismoS132:have you lived in japan?
i live in japan.
my pay as a web designer in singapore was $1400 - CPF.
my pay in japan as a web designer is 240,000yen - 10% tax + transport allowance (30k) + rental allowance(50k) + medical insurance.
expenses may be high in japan, but so is remuneration.
expenses are high in singapore, but wages have been falling.
Precisely my point.Originally posted by nismoS132:have you lived in japan?
