Ahh..thats a good idea.. and a very interesting link u have there... thanks!Originally posted by siaokao:I believe there are such parks available already in SG. Btw, i skate regularly in East coast park.
Actually there are several organisation in Singapore who are managing groups of us using Malaysian tracks (sepang and PG). SMSA also organises mini 'races/rallies' in Kallang and sometimes in Marina south (in car parks due to lack of a proper track). Basic organisational structure is already in place. A semi-private group is even willing to fund, build and manage a FIA approved track in Tuas. Unfortunately, due to high land cost demand by JTC (to the tune of $100K/mth) puts the project on hold.
There is no question motorsports is an expensive affair. However, it is interesting to note a race car can cost alot less than a regular car that we drive on SG roads. Race cars are not taxable, no COE, no road tax. Thus, you can buy a track car from as little as $5k and have lots of fun in it.

Racing glamourizes a lifestyle which the young wants to emulate but cannot afford. If we do F1 races here, the police will need to step up enforcement actions and we should increase the penalties for speeding. Those who participate in illegal races should have theor licenses suspended indefinitely. They are a menace to society.Originally posted by siaokao:If u are concern abt -ve influence on our young.. you should ask ur PAPa ban Initial-D movies!
Racer Wannabes are devils on road (as in they take lives).. Real racers are much safer than your average driver on the road..
So the right thing for your PAPa to do is to build a proper race track and make these wannabe real racers.
Must everything be weighed in dollars and cents? It's such mentality that hobbles a country from turning into a nation, and limits it to a demeaning status as a glorified factory.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:Just because we have drug addicts since the 60s does not mean we should glamorize the drug culture.
The government has yet to convince me that the economic gains will outweigh the social ill effects of bringing the F1 here. There is no need to bend over backwards for the minority who want to take up motor racing as a hobby at the expense of the nation. As I said, I am prepared to support it if it nakes economic sense, like the casino, but the case has not been made.
Thats the best you can come up with?Originally posted by oxford mushroom:Young people who want to kill themselves are completely entitled to do so in the races tracks of Malaysia. Just do not come asking for medical subsidies when they break their necks and get paralysed for life. They should buy their own insurance policies. They do not deserve my sympathy...
