LTA appoints external consultants to review bus and train networks

SINGAPORE: The Land Transport Authority has appointed consultants to review the public bus and train networks.
The consultants, Booz Allen Hamilton from Australia, will look at the transport structure and how the public system is regulated.
The LTA says it has appointed external consultants this time, in order to look at a full range of options like what has worked for other cities and how to improve in the system.
Last year, the Minister for Transport, Raymond Lim, announced that the LTA would conduct a review of public transport to support continued population and economic growth.
The Singapore government aims to increase the percentage of people using public transport from 63 percent to 70 percent over 10 to 15 years. - CNA /dt>>
Why are Singaporeans paying such high salaries to the Ministers and the brainy Scholars, who scored A's in everything, FOR?
Why must they continue to spend more money to engage outside people to come and help them THINK?
Looks like we Singaporeans have been taken for a ride.
They are simply drawing high salaries without working; instead getting outsiders to come and do their own work!
Knn.....Our Jialeowbee ministers, CEOs and the sg elites get world highest salaries and yet they have to depend on Foreigners to assist in re-desgn of our transportation system. Fark them!!!
I as a layman...I had already foreseen the problem that we will face in future when our population hit 6 or 7 millions.
I have the solution...but I'm not going to share with the gov....afterall the credits will go to the gov, minister or CEO.......They take all the meat, we scavenge with left over bones.
If you are free....take a look at all the mrt stations, trains and bus services and analyse how it will cope with 6 or 7 millions of population. -

The "privatisation" effect has in fact made our transportation system worse.
Taxi fares are going up too. Real wage of an average Singaporean reamins "Stagnant" ( If you ask me it has fallen dramatically ).... so taxi usage will not improve in the near future until the IRs are completed.
So I have absolutely no idea how did LTA pull manage to assume those figures which it has hope to improve. And to be frank, after the Bozos from Aussieland finished their report, expect more MAD Hare schemes to be implemented. We have the most complex payment system in the world for our fares. T
The fact remains that we are only a small island... there is simply no excuse where the Transport providers sees itself fit to be ALWAYS passing the cost of their infrastruce building and the renewal of their fleet to the consumers.
PUBLIC transportation is a utility item. It is something that every country must invest in with their taxpayer's money, to built land transport infrastructure. But our transport providers have always maintain their position of charging every single cent to us while KEEPING ALL THEIR PROFITS to themselves.
To be blunt, it is also a simple issue of addressing the commuters' needs rather then creating more complex schemes to make things work. If the system is efficient, simple and the fares are reasonable, it is only logical to expect more commuters to use the transport system extensively. -

Yup as a mixed breed myself...I also think that asians give too much respect to angmohs.....sigh...so pathetic
Anyway, I've already given up on Sillypore as we still look up to angmohs and that is why they still trample on us...I'd rather be in China where at least now the chinese there work very hard and do not depend on angmohs so much, even if they do, its to learn from then, not to hand everything to them and say...come and run the show for us.
LEt us all migrate to China, HK, US, Canada, Australia etc -

Remembering the angmohs created the Ez link cards?(Sorry, I didnot take public transportation,not sure the name) which were not only costing us a bomb and inconvience as well , but when I saw the similiar cards had been in used in HK and Japen successfully there, I was wondering why we didnot just adopt the same system in HK and Japen and had to engaged this Ang Mo's company and created such a fuss!!!!

I've worked with consultants before (esp foreign ones) - they will, (a) on context of gathering information, talk to each and everyone involved, from the planners, to the policy makers, ask you to tell them how the current system work, what are the difficulties you meet, what are the challenges you forsee, blah and blah and they'll diligently jot down what you tell them.
Then, they will so call do "some problem modelling" using some propietary software or algorithm that supposedly come up with a model. Then they will propose lengthy analysis, list down the core factors / problem areas that should be addressed / taken care of.
Last but not least, they will give recommendations on the problems and lo and behold, the recommendations are gleaned from what was told to them by the various staff / person in charge during the interviews ! Because only the top top management reads these reports, they don't know that probably uncle tan fifty hierarchical ranks below them actually have this solution / proposal.
And if you read further, you realise its wishy washy, broad motherhood statements - rationalise the operations of the departments, centralise the decision making process, cut down the lines of reporting, blah blah...and most of time means - RETRENCHMENT.....
I firmly believe that for transportation problem, it is an unique problem for Singapore and I really don't see the point of asking an Australian consultant, you mean we have no one in Singapore capable of doing something like this? Whatever happened to the LTA scholars? Whatever happened to the Policy making ppl? Why can't Singaporeans solve a Singaporean problem? If you look at metropolis like New York and Tokyo, most of those problems are solved locally using ingenius ideas conceived locally. Give the locals a chance, don't everything run to outsiders. -

$10,000 was spent on renaming Budget Terminal as BUDGET TERMINAL. The winner of this renaming competition actually got won a brand new handphone.
Anyway, it did not attract much attention because of the IR fiasco and "renaming" of Marina Bay.
Rumours i heard that soon after the reconstruction of the National Stadium, the authorities are going to spend money debating over the name, "National Stadium"..... hmmm...chances are its gonna be renamed as National Stadium again.. Can someone confirm this? -

Does any Australia city have a city with 99% asians, 70% of them taking the public transport everyday, with such a hectic lifestyle?
Australians are people that only work 4 days a week, 6hrs a day, and have 3 varied seasons. How are these Australians gonna access us Asian singaporeans? I just do not understand it..so different from Singapore.
Geographically, historically, socially, technically, linguistically, mentality, operationality, racially, politically, financially, environmentally SOOO different from us!!
sigh...i think isn't it better that our super elites consult a firm that could be more related to us, like Tokyo Subway, New York Subway, Shanghai Metro or Hongkong MTR?

A tiny singapore.....with endless national tax funding & maintaining of roads, highway. Roads and highways are of such short distances to construct, many signages that makes driver at ease in travel and seaching.....If they can't manage with this tiny island...than they should go and die!!! -
