Thaksin travel worries government,(TNA) -Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont said Thursday that the government has concerns about deposed former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's movements overseas, which he described as "political movements."

He said the government's action was not designed to set a precedent nor to send a signal to other friendly nations....

Acting Foreign Minister Sawanit Kongsiri said the Singapore government had told the Thai government that the visit and meeting were not politically motivated but were private.
"We are not worried, it's not political. But if there is anything to do with politics and can affect the national security, we will be worried and will take the necessary measures," he told reporters here today.
The Singapore Foreign Affairs Ministry said yesterday that the meeting between Thaksin, who was ousted in a military coup on Sept 19, and Jayakumar was purely social and private.
He was in the republic on a private four-day visit but had reportedly left for Japan.
Thaksin, who sold his family-owned Shin Corporation to Singapore's Temasek Holdings in a controversial deal last year, went to Singapore after the Foreign Ministry revoked diplomatic passports held by him and his wife, Potjaman, on Jan 10.
Sawanit confirmed that the revocation would take affect from Jan 25.
As the military junta that ousted him has continuously denied him the opportunity to return to the kingdom, Thaksin now has to use a normal passport to continue his travel abroad.
He spent most of his time travelling between London, Beijing and Hong Kong after the coup, with short trips to Bali, causing anxiety among the military junta which accused him of involvement in political undercurrents back home.
Former prime minister Chuan Leekpai told the local media that Thaksin could travel anywhere he wanted as he had the wealth, including from the 77 billion baht sale of Shin Corporation.

On his arrival at Narita airport, Thaksin told reporters that there is no specific purpose for his visit and there were no plans so far for him to meet specific people in Japan.
It is Thaksin's first visit to Japan since he was overthrown in a bloodless coup on Sept. 19 while he was in the United States. He has been unable to return to Thailand ever since.
Thaksin went to London after the coup and also visited Hong Kong and Singapore. He is now believed to be based in Beijing. -

Singapore can prevent him from having the interview in Singapore on the grounds that it is not in the national interest to do so. As I said, freedom of expression is not an unfettered right. If need be, Singapore can prevent him from entering by proclaiming him persona non grata if he tries to cross the border. Who cares about whether CNN should portray Singapore in a bad light? Thaksin was already in China...Hong Kong is part of China. No reason why Hong Kong would stop him from entering. In any case, that's his problem, not ours. -

Ousted Thai PM Thaksin visits Japan
Ousted Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra has arrived in Japan to meet with business leaders and to give a public speech, despite Thai government attempts to cut his movements.
Thaksin arrived at Narita airport late on Thursday on a private jet from Beijing, but played down the trip, telling reporters there was no pressing reason for his visit.
The trip comes after Thailand's army-backed government sparked a diplomatic row this week with Singapore, issuing a strong rebuke to the city-state for allowing Thaksin to meet a top government official there.
The junta has also withdrawn Thaksin's diplomatic passport, although it denied on Thursday it was trying to crackdown on his movements.
Thaksin was in New York when the military toppled his government in December and has remained in exile since, hopping between Europe and Asia.
The junta last week ordered television and radio stations not to broadcast statements from Thaksin, signifying their jitters over the ousted leader.
He is expected to stay in Japan until next Thursday, Jiji Press said.
Thaksin is likely to give lectures and meet with Japanese business people, the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper said.

SINGAPORE (CNN) -- CNN's Dan Rivers spoke to ousted Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The following is a transcript of the interview. Rivers began by asking Shinawatra about his alleged involvement in New Year bombings in Bangkok.
Shinawatra: It's baseless allegations. No one believes so. Because everyone knows who is, who am I. I come from election, I come from the people. I owe gratitude to our people. I do everything for the good of the country and the people. I don't do something that's stupid.
Rivers: So you had no involvement.
Shinawatra: Not involvement at all. But I would like to express my deep sympathy, deepest sympathy for those who lose, lost their loved ones and also all those who are injured. And the individuals who are involved must be brought to justice.
Rivers: This is the first time you've spoken since the coup of September the 19th, first of all, you were in the United States, in New York at the U.N., when this happened, how did you find out that this was going on?
Shinawatra: Well I find out just about four, five hours before, before it happened, but I trying to get into the television station but it's very difficult at that time I cannot get into it until I can get into channel 9 briefly, but you know, which I, it's a rumors at that time but I don't believe that this can happen again in the 21st century.
Rivers: So it was surprise when it happened?
Shinawatra: It's very surprise because you know, but anyway 70 years in Thailand, 17 coup happened is very unfortunate but it's, it's an event that happened here in Thailand.
Rivers: Will you go back to, back to politics?
Shinawatra: No. No. (DR: Go back as a private ... ) Enough is enough. Six years you serve the countries. You been working hard. You sacrifice your time even your life. And, even your family life. So it's, it's time for me to go back as a private citizen. And contribute to the Thai society outside political arena. -
