hmm... how come nobody here raise the issue that UK is a racist country, with such blantant racism aired over national TV?Originally posted by saffron60:I think you've heard about the racism row in UK and India featuring top chav celeb Jade Goody on Celebrity Big Brother (CBB).
We already have one in our backyard, why go so far?Originally posted by sgdiehard:hmm... how come nobody here raise the issue that UK is a racist country, with such blantant racism aired over national TV?
People here can condem this or that person for being racist, but are we, seriously an angel who will treat or has treated all as equal beings? That will surely be a huge question mark that each of us have to answer by ourselves, rather than just be part of the crowd to condem someone else for being racist.Whoever said anything about being an angel? The difference is this:
if the bangladeshi is rather hot, then she wouldn't be too traumatised. apparently, it would be "Not totally not traumatizing, but significantly less traumatizing" if the person were to be a good-looking person.Originally posted by bila_prem:What if xiaxue gets screwed by a bangladeshi willingly?
Having these experiences in the MRT, does one as an individual take steps to understand why this group of people cause this event and try to understand or even get them to understand how we can all compromise to reach an acceptable solution for everybody.Or does one start trying to cement the bad blood and opinion in society by ranting and spreading ill feelings, and worse, call for a ban on these people in the MRT?
I agree wholeheartedly, the same can be said for XX. Should we not "as an individual take steps to understand why" XX "cause this event and try to understand or even get XX to understand how we can all compromise to reach an acceptable solution" instead of trying to cast a net to get ppl to write complains against her speech? Btw, the forum starter should in his/own right make the complaints his/herself, rather than get others to support his/her motive. Why need others to do it?
I think the difference is clear, Wendy ChengÂ’s actions ought, and should to be condemned.
Arn't we secretly condeming those ppl in the MRT cases when we come up close and personal to that situation.

Did you know that you can complain to the government about her expressions instead of whining here? REMEMBER you have the SEDITION ACT .
Jeez people .....not happy about it , just go and complain to mediacorp and top it off with a sedition act.
If I were you , I would question how she would be able to tell the difference between a Singaporean indian and a bangladeshi if both don't open their mouths . Likewise a prc chinese and a singaporean chinese or a malaysian malay and a Singaporean malay.
Are we not doing the very same thing in XX's case? Are you mixing up a condemnation of Wendy Cheng and the condemnation of her actions?
How do you know that UK is a racist country? Have you even been there? I've been there and just like any other country in the world, there exists racist people, but that does not make it a racist country.Originally posted by sgdiehard:hmm... how come nobody here raise the issue that UK is a racist country, with such blantant racism aired over national TV?
u dun kp la.Originally posted by FireAndHell:Ok, let's just put a scenerio here. Suppose we're in a crowded MRT train, going to work or outing and dressed with clean clothes and smell like fresh blooms [whatever that means to each individual]. We have our mood and work cut out for the day

We are being open-minded, no grouses towards anyone, race, colour etc. In other words, we are being equal. We enjoy the ppl around us. We love them all!!
Train stops at a station, in pops in several foreigners or ppl [I don't wanna pin on a specific race/country. You have to figure it out with your own experience].
The BO that was emitted by this group of newly arrived ppl smelt like they have not have a changed of clean clothing or bath for at least a week. It is so overpowering that one cannot help but inwardly start cursing and swearing at this group. One has to either move away from them or pretend that the air is bearable [also have to hope that their BO don't stick to oneself too!].
Fine, it happens only once. Just bad luck to come across this kind of ppl in the same time and place. What would our reaction be if we happen to come across these kind of ppl and BO over several episodes. Not forgetting, taking the MRT train gives us many opportunity to meet such group repeatedly. Ultimately, we would inwardly brand that these kind of ppl are a pain [wherever you choose that pain to bother you.]
That will surely constitute being racist to a certain group of ppl. Of course, it will be a subtle way. No outward acknowledgement. But we still are racist, that's for sure.

what in the news about the CBB race row that tells you no racism was involved? there is no doubt the laws in UK and in most countries prohibit racism of any kind, and some form of racism exist in all societies, but for it to be aired over the TV, it only shows how the people there are concious of people who are different. Discrimination due to ignorance is not racism??Originally posted by saffron60:How do you know that UK is a racist country? Have you even been there? I think you should read more news about the CBB race row before you comment, because it sounds like you misunderstood what's happening about the race row.
There is some degree of racism involved, although some viewers think that it stems more from ignorance rather than racism. This is a very grey area which is being debated on until today. However, most people did complain there were elements of bullying, which were either racially motivated or due to ignorance, which instigated the racist remarks; and yes, there is some element of racism involved in both reasons. When there is a cricket match between England and India, who do you think those indian holding british passports would support? don't assume I haven't been there.
So let's say one day while boarding the bus , a ah-soh pushed past me because she was carrying 2 big bags of groccery and scrambling to get a seat (actually this often happen to me)Originally posted by FireAndHell:Ok, let's just put a scenerio here. I am very sure that if we are put in a terrible spot like what she have experienced, we will be openly racist throughout our lifespan. No doubt about it.
The reason we don't become openly racist, is we did not ecounter a terrible experience like she did. But deep down inside us, we sure are racist. It's a natural phenomenom. No two ways about it.![]()

I think you oversimplify this issue. It is much more complicated than you make it out to be. Some indians, although they have migrated to the UK, may be loyalists to India and not very patriotic to UK when it comes to cricket but that doesn't mean that they are racist. My goodness, you really have to read more about issues concerning racism.

you're the one who should read more about racism human psychology and such; you ignorant pea-brain! pathetic sad sod. Coincidently, controversial singaporean blogger Xiaxue, www.xiaxue.blogspot.com, has made racist comments in her blog entry entitled 'misrepresentation', posted on 12/1/07.
These are some extracts taken from her blog:
''I am racist. Everyone is. If you ask me if I would rather be locked up in a
room with a Bangladeshi or a British guy I'd take my chances with the
British, because of my EXPERIENCES. I don't care how you guys start
defending and saying the Bangladeshi might be a gentle, nice guy, but
FACT REMAINS I GOT MOLESTED BY A LOT OF THEM AS A YOUNG TEEN.''
''Are you racist too? It is UNPREVENTABLE to have views and opinions on
the various races, simply because humans have a brain and can't help
but judge.
Racist? I am sorry, but the fact that so many Filipino girls I see around
Liat Towers are tittering like bees around white men,''
This is one blogger who thinks that she is invincible and that no one can stop her from making racist comments, she even calls everyone a racist!
Currently, she has a tv programme on channel 5, singapore called 'girls out loud'. What is more alarming is when you read the readers' comments on the rape case and racism. It just seems so unfair that someone like xiaxue can freely spread the 'seeds of evil' and young people are just following the propoganda blindly.
Excuse me trendz, the reason why I quoted from wiki, it's because it's on the internet and well known to most internet users, I could have quoted from obscure sources but then, most people will look it up in wiki anyway. Since you are quite brilliant in psychology, you would know when someone 'googles' racism, one the first few searches that pops up is under wiki. So it is quite likely that the person would look it up under wiki, unless the person happens to be anti-wiki, like you. And yes, most people reading wiki will know that it is a compiled by many sources but it should not mean that the info should be discredited straight away. Wiki should only be a starting point, and if people are really interested, they can go to a library and get more books on the subject. sorry, that I AM NOT SO DETAILED ABOUT THE SOURCE, unless you noticed, most of the readers here are ordinary people, i can't say for sure whether some have studied philosophy or not, but I don't think it's nice to be condescending towards them when I'm writing my comments.Originally posted by trendz:you're the one who should read more about racism human psychology and such; you ignorant pea-brain! pathetic sad sod. If you had studied philosophy; you'll know that Natural law states that human being are selfish.
and any biasness; ostracizing, critics, racism, favourism, self-centredness, selfishness, non-existent impartiality stems from the natural law.
Go f*ck yourself, really. Brainless prick tryna be a smart alec! _|_
