I believe the issue is that innocent singaporean who had commit minor offences are given caning. To my knowledge it is not true. Most of the cases such as robbery, gang robbery, pirates (not selling vcd but works in the sea) firearms, raping and sodomy etc are given caning. Illegal immigrants now also faces caning as well as vandalism. If you ask me, I believe I do support illegal immigrants to be caned in order to deter them from repeatedly coming over. For vandalism, if the person is really an unsound mental patient he can seek mitigation. And it is effective in a way that there are not much vandalism.
But WTF? Why vandalism must kenna the cane? I dun understand this. Btw, I also dun think that Illegal immigrates should be allowed to stay in prison. They should be deported immidiately. If you insist on caning them, give them a few stroke and deport them straight away. Why keep them here to eat away the taxpayers' money? -

At the risk of going off-topicÂ… what exactly are you talking about? Murder certainly has more long lasting effects on the people around.
In murder, the murderer killed that person and the victim will not come back to life. No emotional scar on the victim, only scars on the victim's family; In rape, the rapist rape the person but the poor fellow (I use the unisex word because a male can also kenna rape) is still alive and live by the scar. The victim's family is also tramustised. (I know wrong spelling, I'm just too lazy to check the correct one)
So, which one is worse?
When you murder someone, you take that person away from his family forever. The family is often left without a sense of closure and a permanent sense of that personÂ’s lossÂ… they will have no more time left with that person. How can that be any less that the trauma inflicted by rape?
This is not to say that rape is not a heinous crime, however it is entirely possible for the person to recover from the event and get on with leading a normal life. Given proper support from friends and family rape victims do not live on to become zombies, but survivors of the event.
Would not many families of murder victims, if they had the choice to chooseÂ… preferred that their loved ones had suffered rape instead of murder? -
About illegal immigration, it may be because letting them off lightly means they have nothing to lose by trying to come over. They can try their luck as tourist and come over to singapore and do all the undesirable acts and when they get caught, they just get a free ticket back home. If they get to be caned, then they have something to lose and may consider trying their luck at other country

To be exact, the damage enacted by flogging is actually scientifically reversible.

I thought there is a fundamental difference between mischief and vandalism in the sense that mischief is an act against the property of individual while vandalism is an act against the property of the government.

For example,stepdad raped his stepdaughter twice,he was give the maximum 24 strokes of cane & 24 years of impriosnment.If there is a person raped his daughter 5 times,how many stokes of canes our judges think is needed?
It is not fair. The front did the evil and the back received the punishment.

According to the research which is actually the link which you provided on your first page, updated on August 2006, states that the canings offences does not include renting out house to undesirables. I can understand why you find that the offence of renting out houses is a cane-able offence, but I think given the more informative authority from the 2 websites is seems that renting out houses to undesirables is not a cane-able offence. Perhaps it will be enlightened to show the relevant passage on the singapore statues online. ( I try to find myself but fail)

In M'sia,illegal immigrants only get 1 stroke of flogging but here they get 3 strokes.Our judges are more cruel than judges there.But then there is sentencing bench mark which the local judges have to follow.
