Do u know wat is concrete made of????Originally posted by shade343:If the construction industry slowly weans itself from sand, the demand for sand will decline.
In future, look forward to new buildings that uses steel reinforcement rather than concrete reinforcement.
Alternatively, if somebody finds a way to make reinforced concrete without the use of concreting sand, all the better.
100 %!!Originally posted by ShutterBug:Logically, I EXPECT costs of private developments will escalate as a result of this ban.
No one should expect cost of sand from further away country to be acquired at same price.
I just feel that this sandy issue can pave way to some degree of economic stumbles in the VERY near future. It has already started a cost-ripple... and its spreading...
Yup, definitely cost will go up, and a building cant be 100% steel. How much would depend on whether genting has already tendered out the project to the main contractor or not. If they had called for tender last year, their cost might be lower. If they were to call for tender now, their cost would be higher as contractors would factor in the increase of price in raw materials.Originally posted by maurizio13:Makes sense, but still can't totally do away with the use of sand.
I think cost will go up.
I think the cost of building the IR will go up, unanticipated by Genting.
Maybe they can source from Malaysia, afterall they are Malaysian listed company.
I m not making cement powder, dont know, leh!!!Originally posted by ShutterBug:Sand is a non-substitutable component of concrete. But I don't recall sand being used in cement powder manufacture?
Again you show how dumb you are. Its without concrete there wouldnt be a need for sand. Not the other way round. Sand and coarse aggregates are needed to add strength to the concrete.Originally posted by foomwee88:Do u know wat is concrete made of????
Cement, sand and agg!!!!depending on ratios only!!!
W/o sand there is no concrete!!!
I think u r a PSLE holder like OM!!!
F U C K you!!! What you know about construction?Originally posted by shade343:Are you dumb or something? You sound like you dont study construction and yet you speculate on the amount of sand a building needs. Have you ever heard of steel reinforcement?
OMG. DOnt you know that timber has to be tanalised and treated for water resistivity?Originally posted by foomwee88:Timber partitioned walls would be badly affected by the ingress of h2o,how ah, like the 2 LPs internally inundated with h20 and fff soaked with water all were ruined !!!
Experts,how ah!!!
Yes, circumstances whereby contracts were signed earlier, will face costing problems now.Originally posted by shade343:Yup, definitely cost will go up, and a building cant be 100% steel. Really? Which construction firm are you from?Originally posted by Lowclassman:F U C K you!!! What you know about construction?
I've been in construction for twenty years!!! God damn it!!!
1 cubic metre of G30 concrete, what the amount sand required? Can you tell us?
Cement is....................Originally posted by shade343:Again you show how dumb you are. Its without concrete there wouldnt be a need for sand. Not the other way round. Sand and coarse aggregates are needed to add strength to the concrete.
Concrete by itself is not strong. Surely you should know all these from your lab tests if you are a BLD SCI Degree holder. I wonder how you manage to get into NUS with such shallow command of english.![]()
You talking to meOriginally posted by shade343:Really? Which construction firm are you from?
Reinforced gr 30 conc of cos consist of 1 part cement and 3 parts sand.
Yes, indeed..Originally posted by mistyblue:Never had thought that sand can cause so much issues. .
Well, I never thought that a sand issue can turn into a flaming war.Originally posted by ShutterBug:Yes, indeed..
oftentimes, the commonest of things in our lives can be quite a niggler...
Well, if contributors to this topic will stick to the subject WITHOUT getting too personal with remarks, then there's no danger of escalations into flamings.Originally posted by Hogzilla:Well, I never thought that a sand issue can turn into a flaming war.
OOhh yah... this is also one notion that's been niggling at the back of my neck eversince the Sand Ban was announced...Originally posted by mistyblue:Worldwide, there is a shortage of metal.. scrap value of metal is so high have no one noticed that coffee shop uncle would recycle your drink cans?
To think of using metal as replacement ... I think HDB is already costly enough ... I do not want to pay anymore than necessary for housing. But for all you know. all these charade might just be wayang to get housing price shooting up the roof.

Yr renovation will cost higher too.. due to higher sand prices.. luckily i had renovated my house already..Originally posted by ShutterBug:OOhh yah... this is also one notion that's been niggling at the back of my neck eversince the Sand Ban was announced...
If HDB housing costs goes up, it WILL affect consumer sentiments, which means worse retail figures as well as in the service industry...
R u sure gypsum board partitioned walling can be tanalised and treated for water resisitance!!!Originally posted by shade343:OMG. DOnt you know that timber has to be tanalised and treated for water resistivity?
And who ask you so dumb to use timber in an area of the building that is exposed to a high amount of moisture?
You sure you are from NUS or not?
Stop disgracing NUS you uneducated laymen.

OMG. NOW YOU ARE AN OFFICIAL FAKER AND A LIAR. From your post, you insinuate that gypsum is a form of timber. I never said that. But you said it.Originally posted by foomwee88:R u sure gypsum board partitioned walling can be tanalised and treated for water resisitance!!!
Which uni u come from!!!!!
We hve tanalised bakau pilings for foundation work only!!!where in the world we need treatment to partitioned walls!!!!
Pls dont make a fool of yrself like OM!!!!
Do u know wat is 1:2:4 and 1:3:6 for concrete grade i.e cement:sand and aggr and water ratios!!!!
u r a real Bull shitter!!!!! know nothing but want to act like one know wat!!!!![]()

Oh, and now you want to test my knowledge on concrete mixture eh? You need my help in answering your construction homework ah? Poor thing. all those ratios you stated refers to the constituent amount in concrete mixture. 1:2:4 refers to 1 part cement, 2 parts sand and 4 parts coarse aggregate.

Hey I agree, but I really cant stand people who post crap here without bothering to research on the subject matter and making wild statements and accusations at the government.Originally posted by SingaporeTyrannosaur:Dude... if you want to carry this on, please do so via PM...
