If your parents persist - and even insists their parental rights - in handling all your affairs, and pressing their concerns into your private life, even when you have reach adulthood, and into your 40's or 50's - are you in any position to deny them of their persistent habit at interfering ?
Is it your fault at wanting to be pampered by your parents, or is it their fault in not knowing how to let go ?
Would it be your fault at wanting to be pampered with handouts, if your parents insist that all you have earned is to be handed to them ?
It is the very nature of our particular society that has given new meaning to the word 'handouts' and 'entitlement'.
In a society where the majority still believe the alternatives cannot make a difference, the younger generation of singaporeans have little choice but to follow the masses.
Every action, every word has been engineered to keep the incumbents in power, but it is the people who have chosen to follow this path. Like the Matrix, many prefer to take the blue pill, and accept the beef for what it is perceived: juicy and tasty, rather than what it ultimately is: blind ignorance.
And for the moment, unfortunately, ignorance is a bliss.
It took hundreds of years before European culture developed into an open society, into one where their own citizens play an active role in governace. In retrospect, our relatively closed system prevents us from emulating the same target; it will be decades before our culture changes for the better.
