From the image, the expanded Tekong obstructs approximately 2/3 the width of the river mouth.
During a heavy downpour, if the river swells, floods the bank and spills inland, then the reclamation is the cause.
If the river swells but does not spill inland, and the water level rises from within the city, then it's the drainage system that cannot cope.
Of course the experts' presence will be required to study the situation when the next heavy downpour occurs. Will require helicopter and boats and money too.
Theoretically, the accusation by Malaysia is valid.
BTW, TEKONG means obstacle. -

Why not build a dam to block Sungei Johor to regulate the tide
and become part of Spore reservoir.
Lets raise fund to build it.I donate S$1 now. -

The same kind of flood happened as far away as Muar, Segamat and Yong Peng area...doesnt that tell them something? -
If the MB of Johor earned an annual income of S$3million and above and if he has an education like his DPM Tun Rajak, most believes that his attitude towards Singapore may be entirely different from what he is today. Most believes that the red eye epidemic has swept across our neighbours lately, may be due to the local media kept pumping up our confidence towards our past and our present economic performance.(whether it is true or not is up to you to judge)
May be Singapore, especially our local media need to be more well behaved as it is harmless to be more humble and have some sensitivities towards our sensitive neighbours. Let others judge our achievements and not keep blowing our own trumpet day in and day out!
Just imagine if one of your colleagues earn double your pay while doing the same job as you monthly, how would you feel if you know the truth? How will you feel if you know that one of them earn 50-100 times your salary monthly? We are all human and the tolerance of human is limited. You will not feel "buoy song" if you know that your immediate neighbours are rich. If they kept flaunting their wealth in front of you,well, just see how long you can withstand that sort of behaviours! -
Actually really easy to push blame - just blame global warming and ice caps melting...so got more floods due to rising sea levels. That one leh .....no one can say it is wrong and no one can say it is right . Everyone will have to diam diam and look at environmental emissions.

so what if these so call neighbours wana bark... noboby will believe them cos they have no creditability at all. And we lose nothing when they bark except a bit paiseh to show the world that we have noisy dogs in our region barking away frequently. If these neighbour wana stay as third world then continue to bark lor. What 2020 become first world.. dream on. it is about the quality of govt and people, not just lip service, STUPID.

conclusion is the same old mad dog barking lor.
luckily now the pm is still ok that's why the dpm can come out to talk some sense. Else big dogs will bark together with the small dogs. .... well, no harm done, just noise. Maybe when time is right just give them a tight slap.

There wasn't much facts that substantiate the allegation that was reported by the media, so one can't really tell whether it is totally baseless or there may be some truth in it. The only evidence I've found so far is anecdotal.

The newspaper said the reclamation had also made the Johor River and the Straits of Johor shallow and this had affected the flow of water.
Pasir Gogok Fishermen Association chairman Ismail Hassan said he had received many complaints from members that the water which used to be 60m deep was now only 40m.
He believed the narrowing and sedimentation of the Johor River from reclamation work meant that the water could not flow freely into the straits.
He added the shallower river had resulted in the water overflowing its banks and flooding Kota Tinggi.''

If those bastard... or ok, low level people can call sg all sorts of names or think they have many ways to skin us and keep giving us noise problem for NOTHING, they deserve the names

You are talking about our neighbours, which means the msia as a country and other nearby countries as well, AND THAT IS WHY YOU DESERVE TO BE CALLED A JAKUN! Just because one msian MB is stirring up trouble, (he is a politician, so isn't it his job to do that? ), you accuse all other neighbours, don't be so stupid next next time, think before you write and avoid making dumb mistakes like that.

And did i ever say I was taking any sides? I was only showing what other evidence i collected on the case and I did say that there wasn't enough facts to substantiate the claim, the facts which were made known to the public though.
You get so hyped up being anti-msian that you don't use your brains to think about what is really going on, you just want to fuel your own prejudices. To me, it's just a case of, not enough proof, so the claim will just 'die' eventually.(Unless there is new, factual evidence).

The MB is a politician and we all know what their job is right? It is up to us, the public, to not believe what these politicians say all the time. Politicians are high profile people, so they got easy access to the media. How are we suppose to stop them from making unsubstantiated allegations? The only way is to either become politicians ourselves or create our own news media, but as ordinary people, we stand a better chance if we dispute the claims ourselves using logical thinking.
