I don't know who was your opposition candidate in your constituency. But you can't blame the opposition for fielding poorer quality candidates, it's the dominant political party's fault that we have a weak opposition, knowing the dire consequences (bankruptcy) for standing up to them, would any sane educated individual stand up to them. If you persist in your way of thinking, there will never ever be a credible opposition in Singaporean politics. If you don't go through the initial stage of reform, you will never get good people to step in because of the fear of prosecution from the dominant party.
Your theory "your enemy's enemy could be an even worse enemy to you...", your first enemy is verified 100% whereas "could" means it's a possibility, it's not a confirmation.
First of all, if you had voted for CSJ, doesn't mean if the opposition wins, he is going to be the PM, they can only form a coalition government. But with more voices in parliament, the voices of common Singaporeans would be heard. It's only a 5 year term for him, but this change can do a lot of good for the people of Singapore, because during this period more Singaporeans will step up to join politics as the grip of the dominant party is reduced.
If you think that CSJ is not good and you are better than him, then you should have the guts to stand for elections, else what's the point of talking and complaining. I admit that CSJ is not very wise at times, but at least he has the balls to stand up against authority. Remember, voting him in doesn't mean that he will run the government, it's a coalition government with other parties. -

I was actually super happy when Mr Chiam's share of votes increased despite the MIW's threat of no upgrading if residents persist in voting for the incumbant.
He is a great leader deserving of people's votes. He was able to connect to the common people which most MIW leaders can't do...
Even if you implement policies good for the country's economy, you got to take into account the feelings of the people too.. recently I got this feeling everyone is just working damn damn damn hard for the gahment and contributing to their astronomical salary without them justifying the salary... -

Everytime I talked to people, they tell me they don't like the PAP style of governance, but when I asked why not vote for the opposition candidates, they say opposition don't have candidates with good paper qualification. Only when we have overcome the initial obstacles of winning a majority representation, will we ever have the opportunity to entice more talents into the opposition camp.
Either that or dissolve the party political system, let individuals representations be based on their own merits. In which case, any bills introduced into parliament will have a non party political bias. Everyone will be elected on their own merits, if their performance is sub-optimal, electorates will ensure the end of his political career. For this to happen they should also remove their current unfair practice of Group Representation Constituency. -
