SEREMBAN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi yesterday said he was very happy that former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize .
On Sunday, it was reported that four non-governmental organisations in Bosnia and Herzegovina had nominated Dr Mahathir for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.
The four NGOs are the Sarajevo School of Science and Technology, the Congress of Bosnik Intellectuals and two Christian organisations — the Serb Civic Council from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Croat National Council.
Former Bosnia-Herzegovina vice-president Dr Ejup Ganic spearheaded the move to nominate Dr Mahathir.
Former US vice-president Al Gore, Finnish peace-broker Martti Ahtisaari and Chinese dissident Rebiya Kadeer are among those who have been nominated for the prize this year.
BangladeshÂ’s Grameen Bank and its founder, Muhammad Yunus, won the Nobel Peace Prize last year.
Meanwhile, in Putrajaya, Dr Mahathir said the government was supportive of the initiative taken by
the Perdana Global Peace Organisation to organise the three-day War Crimes Conference and Exhibition, which starts here today.
"One of the ministries has donated a huge sum of money for this conference. I believe that the Prime MinisterÂ’s Department has also contributed. I donÂ’t know about other governments, only about the Malaysian government."
He said the conference, the third of its kind held here, would have a cross-section of participants from all over the world.
"We hope that after this conference we would be able to do something towards criminalising war."

"There are many ways to skin a cat, and to skin Singapore, there are also many ways."

I think he was nominated because of the work he did for the Muslim in the Bosnia and Herzegovina region.Originally posted by Fatum:It's farking ironic that a man who now professes to be fighting for equality and freedom for all the down trodden people of the world was the architect of some of the most blatantly discriminatory policies against minorities in the world in his own country ...
for a man who's now working towards preventing war, he certainly never hesitated to rattle sabers at his smaller neighbour .... remember that this man got his start as a racialist, nothing less ...
perhaps his version of equality and freedom only applies to his co-religionists ....
oh yeah, heard that theory being brandished around before ...Originally posted by LazerLordz:Mahathir must "attack" Singapore to take the winds out of the lesser known elements in Malaysian politics which if in power, may prove to be more harmful to bilateral ties.
Same goes for his anti-West rhetoric. By being the first to slam them, he is denying PAS a chance to seize the Islamic moral high ground in doing so by ensuring the centrist Barisan Nasional party does so as a symbolic gesture.
Thing is, it's harsh on their locals, but it benefits us in the long-term in the eyes of some watchers who would rather have him and his crew yelling than Anwar..Originally posted by Fatum:oh yeah, heard that theory being brandished around before ...
so you win populist votes in the Malay heartlands by scratching their hearts with more rhetorics, more vows of Malay supremacy, more decades of NEPs .... while the country slides further backwards .... nice ...
it's no wonder that Malaysia has such a high emigration rate ... throw a stone at any university campuses in the west, though you may not hit a singaporean student, you're guaranteed to hit a Malaysian (minority) kid ... go figure ...
