Slashed defence budget by 20% to help the poor instead

Singapore is spending way too much on defence. Tiny island got at least 40 camp complexes. Budget in a way help to sustain Defence Science Organisiation. e.g why the need to keep changing fieldpacks? Bionix so fast must be replaced or retrofitted.

Actually, the Bionix is kinda.. not exactly top notch when it arrived. There were 30mm cannons back then but we used a 25mm. don't have to cut back on armaments, cut the pay of super scale officers, cut wastages in the system ... I wonder how many tons of fresh food gets thrown away every single day at the cookhouses and no one gives a fark cos the accounts get padded every day .... cut down on stupid things like wine and canapes receptions for senior brass after major exercises ....

Un uh, defence is one thing that we should not reduce spending on. Restructure the way we are spending the capped amount maybe, but slashing it isn't the way to go given our small size, the way the world is now, and the countries we are surrounded by. Spending wisely, not spending less is the main idea when it comes to defence. True enough, some wasteful praticed ought to be terminated.
In our case we always have to carry a big stick in our area, there's no such thing as an almost-ready defence. -
considering the state of our neighbours, we can afford to be a little more thrifty. and yes, there are tons of wastages in the system. 5-tonners sitting idle for hours, printing stuff that only requires quater of a page, senseless printing of multiple copies of emails for a meeting that lasts half an hour.

This is just one example... there are so many ways to do it other than raise 2% GST to help the poor. They will not do it, why?

what boils my blood is to see senior brass sipping wine at post ex receptions while poor farks on the ground had to go "bang bang bang" cos the unit can't indent any more blanks .... FARK ! ...

I'd rather they come to their senses like Hong Kong & ditch the whole GST increase idea! Tax on luxury goods instead!

Talking about 5 Tonners (military lorry), it was not too long we bought the Fiat lorries phasing out the Mercedes type. Then we bought the present lot. the tailboard is way too high, cannot close it when u in it, needing someone to close from outside.. Yes, tyres can self -inflat so wat. Spending wisely the key words here, i would rather Mindef re-imburse those who attend IPT (voluntary fitness session). Effectively wat they do is no dif from the compulsory ones. Noted. Our tonners not even protected from lightning except those in the cabin.

i agree we just shouldnt slash defence budget but how to manage our procurement of military armament more efficiently.
all of us serve in NS. how many times have we seen those defence bih heads making blunder buying military equipment spending hundreds of millions of dollars and only to have them replace a couple of years later quoting equipment problem, phase out as a reason.
NAVY is another one big screw up. spent millions on sonars only to realise we could not even detect a shit and endless defects.
that scholars management all the Hoo Ha but ;ack the practical aspect of work. -
Procurement definitely need closer scrutiny to reduce wastage.

Singapore new KC-135 Stratotanker was seen as a far-reaching move on the neighboring countries standpoint. Singapore air force simply does not require KC-135s for the time being. KC-135 seen to serve more to aid US military operation. Singapore now boasts a broad array of military paraphernalia spying-satellite?, submarine, F-16 jet fighters, Apache helicopters, Rapier missiles and AIM-120C. Is this what it takes to defend an island country? -
