Mmmh $400,000 for a HDB flat. That's pretty dumb if you ask me... anyway glad to see HDB's are getting more affordable. Shows that either Singaporeans are getting richer, or dumber. Either that or the Government is getting more hungry.

I agree with Joe, what about those who heed the government's call to have children and needs to upgrade? I know there are some children subsidies, but at the current resale market prices, the subsidies can't really help much especially when you factor in the various expenses incurred when you have children... -

it cannot be helped by fact that ppl wants to stay at matured estates where proximity to town and amentities are a plenty full. Its the same phenomenon even in Hong Kong and other established cities.
The situation is not helped by foreigners purchasing such properties (HDB via re-sale) that push up the price further. Supply and demand. The only way really is for government to step in and block out those who are in purely for speculation. Otherwise, we are in for vicious circle, ppl who bought high will want to sell even higher. And when the market crash, they cannot sell lest make huge losses.
Its fact that HDB make huge profits. Just imagine, HDB is building taller and taller flats on a given plot of land, each unit size becomes smaller but yet, the price of each unit gets progressively more expensive as it goes higher. At least for condo, you pay the most expensive unit for a penhouse. For HDB? You buy the most expensive unit only becos its the highest but in terms of size, its no difference to the five-room unit on the ground floor.
I agree with fellow brudders, if HDB is abiding by affordable housing, they should maintain the price of the flats at even lower rates, not increase vis-a-vis the private housing. -

Don't be a slave of your 99 years leasing house. Is not worth to struggle being in Sinkapore. Life is very short!
Due to falling of birth rate.....Sg govt is giving loads of goodies to foreigners to migrate to singapore that to uphold the value of HDB housing.
If possible don't buy a car if you don't ready need it. Why be so stupid? Giving away your hard earned $$$ to Govt?
If most of us are realistic enough for life in sinkapore....get a bicycle and ride to work, spend much lesser, be very simple. -
