Apparently the transport minister says that the congestion problem at the MRTs can be solved if people just moved towards the centre of the carriage.

There is SOME empty space ABOVE the commuters during peak hours. -
with only 6.5M , where do Singapore stand in year 2020? Singapore might be one of the smallest city in South east asia, let alone asia.
If we all open our eyes, both China and India with more than 1 billion people each can make mega cities (10, 20 million people) over night (less than 10 yrs), if that happens, China and India can easily have more than 50 cities more vibrant and propserous than us. Who would then want to trade in Singapore or come to Singapore? Will the Merlion still be that attractive?
By then we don't have to worry about crowded trains (as most foreigners and even Singaporeans would have move to more prosperous land and more opportunities) as by then there will be so much space in the trains that you can run laps inside them

the problem with our Transport Minister is he only take the MRT once a month or may be even just once a year, thus he does not experience the fustration and angony of the common people when they have to take the train every single day, some times a few time a day.
It is truely very sad that he cannot empathis with the feelings of the common people, yet they want more people to take the public transport by the year???
It is also very sad that the govt spent billions of dollars to built the MRT infrastructure (that can transport tens of thousands of people per hour) but when they give it to operators, the operators will just try to increase profit by saving and squeezing a few million dollars out ( reducing the real capacity of the whole infrastruture) by providing less trains running (longer waits and more crowded trains).
I now find it really readiculous as there seems to be no off-peak hours on the trains any more; b cos the trains are alway so packed!!!
any one have data on the frequency of the trains for the past 20 years? lets compare it to the population data, my bet is that they are running less train with increase population.
