This inaugural special day is to connect overseas Singaporeans by
bringing them a slice of home
Overseas Singaporeans should mark this date in their calender: April 21
has been declared as Singapore Day. [!]
In what is likely to be an annual event, Singapore Day is aimed at
engaging and connecting the 100,000 overseas Singaporeans to home,
kicking off with a day-long event to be held at New York's Bryant Park.
Over 1,000 Singaporeans living in or near New York are expected to
attend the inaugural event. Besides a food fair featuring local hawker
favourites and cultural entertainment, Singaporean leaders from private
and public sectors will play host.

Or in other words. The Embassy will have a big party and provide a lot of good food to SGns (and every hanger on) that can come. And we'll implore these people to come back home.
Nice food, but it won't work
