Are you sure it is purely commercial deal? Temasek is owned 100% by the Ministry of Finance. And the money came from the Singapore tax payers. The general claimed that it is part of thier national asset.

A deal worth $3 BILLION that is paid from cash taken from the Singapore Reserves and did not pass muster from the Singapore Government ?
Is Temasek an independent commercial entity similar to any large US or European Corporation, or is its existence due to the fact that its capital is 100% paid by the Singapore Government - with money from our Reserves ?
Government spokesman Yongyuth Mayalarp said Sonthi's remarks had voiced an opinion shared by many people.3.Now Thai political parties also vowed their supports.
"The public sentiment on the issue of satellites is a shared feeling among Thai people, and [Sonthi's remarks] should not be construed to tarnish relations with Singapore," he said...
In explaining his controversial remarks, Sonthi said he had no political agenda.
"Thais see their satellites as national property and want to resume control of them," he said.
Democrat Party deputy leader Alongkorn Pollabutr voiced support for Sonthi to repurchase the satellites.
This could be done either by raising funds via the sale of government bonds or by ordering state-controlled CAT Telecom to take over Shin Satellite, he said.

I never really understood why the Thais are making so much noise over Shin Corp.
It's a privatised company from the start, and Thaksin just happens to be both the PM and CEO of the company.
He's free to do whatever he wants with his company.
"Temasek never takes part in our management, they never sit on our board and never work in our company,'' Tanyapas said. She said Thailand's government owns the company's four orbiters and the Shin Satellite shares the revenue it gets from operating the satellites with the Thai government.2.I think it will be a bad news.
Shin Corp. also controls ITV Pcl, the nation's only television network operator not owned by the government or military, and CS Loxinfo Pcl, an Internet company.
Information and Communications Minister Sitthichai Pookaiyaudom will Monday announce measures for taking back satellite concessions from Singapore's Temasek Holdings, he said Sunday.
After the announcement, he will submit the measurse to Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont to consider and choose.
He said the mesures would not affect the feelings of foreign investors and would not be seen a persecution against Singapore.
Sitthichai declined to accept the proposal of the Democrat Party to issue bond to raise fund to buy back the satellite concessions.

Yeah.... i remember. As far as I'm concern, Shin Corp was sold to Temasek in a Black & White deal..... if the Gen Sonthi could at least bring out prove of wrong doing instead of telling the same old story.... At all times there are ppl against the selling of ''national'' company..... the aust are against the selling for their beloved ''flying kangaloo''.... korean are against the selling of their car maker to US company....... so, whats new.Originally posted by (human):Anyone there still remember LHL claimed that Temasek and shin corps deal is purely commercial deal during the time when Thais were buring his and his wife photos?

Took Thailand more than 5 mths and they still can't charge former PM of anything. So now bully little S'pore because WE don't know our place![]()
Look at the south of thailand..... bombing still going on, and yet they blame former PM for failing to bring peace.
"If just over 50 per cent of respondents want us to take back the concession, we will not take any action yet. We'll take action only if more than 75 per cent of respondents want us to do so," Sitthichai said.---http://www.nationmultimedia.com/breakingnews/read.php?newsid=30027346

heard the thai govt ready to pay S$400 million to buy back the satellite or S$4 billion for Shin....if no lost I hope temasek better quickly sell la... and take it as a lesson learnt.... don't deal too much with less developed country that has strong military background and don't touch their private parts ... amidhaba

Actually it makes total sense... they can't take it back for free even if they wanted and launching a conflict will cost them more then the entire deal itself.Originally posted by hloc:Read in today newspaper that thailand admits that they will have to ''pay'' to buy back their Shin Corp...... after all the threat..... sense come to them at last......![]()
