Are you sure it is purely commercial deal? Temasek is owned 100% by the Ministry of Finance. And the money came from the Singapore tax payers. The general claimed that it is part of thier national asset.

Sonthi wants many things. And it is quite ironic that he should ask for state intervention in purchasing something that is seen as vital to Thai national interests, while at the same time, he and his bunch of weed-whackers lambasted us for using state funds to purchase their assets hiding behind a cloak of a "independant" agency.
If he wants it back, he'll have to buy it back.At the prevailing market rate.Regardless of the ethics of our initial purchase, Shin Corp is a privatised firm, and if the Thais want to retain their international credit and investment rating, they better stop making inflammatory statements. I'd like to see them wriggle around the sheets when the Council for National Security starts appearing either inept or begins to clampdown on a steadily rising tide of unhappiness and popular feeling amongst the people that they are not doing much in terms of their coup promises and the Pattani problem down south.
Technocrats generally do not know much about running a nation with such diverse demographics and political affiliation. A regime that came to power in a coup promising democracy and accountability will not stay in power by playing a zero-sum domestic political agenda and freezing pro-Thaksin supporters from the political discourse of the day. -

Sonthi has exposed himself as little more than a ranting opportunist, eager to express his 'patriotic' position to the media and the younger generation of Thais, without any real conviction or background to support his claim.
It has been 5 months since the bloodless coup, yet Sonthi and his military junta has yet to press any charges against ousted Thai Premier Thaksin Shinawatra, despite their claims of rampant corruption and neopotism.
Their inability to install a creditable interim govt is yet another example of political naviety, in part stemming from the military junta's own failure to win over the people's support, which has seen a massive drop since the coup.
Exactly what could be the reasons for his latest outburst, if not to provide more bluster and whip up nationalistic sentiment to distract the masses? -

As far as I'm concern, Shin Corp was sold to Temasek in a Black & White deal..... if the Gen Sonthi could at least bring out prove of wrong doing instead of telling the same old story.... the thais want only the satellites, not the whole shin corp....naturally any country which has military communication equipment in the hands of foreign countries would freak out too...when an american hedge fund bought into more than 5% of dbs bank years back, the sg govt through mas insisted that they liquidated it below 5%...same same....some things are indeed sacred cows, so before anyone hits out at the thais for being paranoid, look at your own backyard...singtel sold to non-singaporean company? it's a sure no-no....
