Singapore PAP govt is morally bankrupt to deny barrier free access to aged and handicapped in the constituencies of the opposition wards by not providing sufficient govt fund to the town council of theses wards. It has reported in the state- owned newspapers BLATANTLY headlined :'Estates run by PAP to be barrier-free by 2011'.
Co-Incidentally 2011 happens to be the year for the next election.
This a morally outrageous action against the handicapped and aged.

Then they can accuse the opposition for not taking care of the physically handicapped when they are morally handicapped.
But ask yourself this question lah. The money they use for all these infrastructure came from their pocket or OUR pocket? -
The handicapped and the elderly in the 2 opposition constituencies should move to the other 82 PAP-controlled constituencies or vote PAP instead

The action by the govt to deny opposition wards the government funds to built barrier- free access, is the very antithesis of the Govt stance in the CNY message, that emphasised on the upholding of the family responsibiity especially in looking after the elderly.

the simple point is that our ppl living in opp wards are shortchanged and are treated unfairly. i think it's hard to argue otherwise. -

As a combat medic I was trained to treat anyone who is in need of my skills equally, even if they are my enemies who have sworn to kill me.
And before you say it, no, I'm not a hypocrite for saying that. I have personally treated the wounds of people who have bullied me before and made my life a living hell during NS. Why? Because:
1) That's what I'm expected to do, and it has been drilled into my head that it's the right thing to do.
2) The red cross on my left shoulder is more than just a funky piece of fashion statement.
So treating handicapped and old people differently just because of different political support is perfectly alright, huh? So you still believe that this is all a joke? Still can laugh and put 'mrgreen' smileys in your post?
Perhaps you might want to try taking a look at things from the perspective of those people.
I can recognise that the Fudgester-centric point of view can be quite limited, which is why I place myself in the shoes of those people and try to see things from their point of view.
Perhaps you might want to try to for once shift away from an OM-centric point of view and putting yourself in their shoes as well. You'll be amazed at how different things can seem to be in a different light.

There must be a distinction in the way constituents who support the ruling party are treated from those who support the Opposition. As a MP of Singapore Government, they ought to serve the People of Singapore and not neglect the people of the opposition wards!
What if a ex-PAP MP fainted at Potong Pasir MRT, can potong pasir residents don't help him because s/he is a ex-PAP member?

Just as a doctor has to treat all patients regardless of whether or not he/she is your enemy, a government has to treat her citizens likewise.
While I agree that they shouldn't freeload, all citizens should be given equal rights if the public is going to use the facilities.
Proving is another matter, if only the opposition are given the chance. Heck, the government is giving them no chance to do so.
And to talk about fairness, if the voters didn't vote for PAP, for what reason should they be paying taxes and not receiving the rights that they are entitled to?
This isn't a political issue, it's a personal issue. PAP ministers are taking this to a personal level. As I'm a tech person, I can only say to think in the way of Microsoft. Just because Microsoft owns 95% of the PC market, it gives them no rights to lock down all kinds of things in Windows, just like how our ministers are treating opposition voters now. -

The Straits Times article on 15 Feb covers both lift upgrading and ramps for the handicapped, which are two separate issues. I believe the CIPC funds will cover the ramps in Opposition estates, but not the lift upgrading programme and I expect a clarification will come in time.
As a principle, I feel that Singaporeans who vote in the ruling party should benefit more than those who voted against them. Therefore I have no issue with the priority given to PAP constituencies for upgrading projects, a policy which had been rejected by the Opposition MPs.
On this matter of CIPC funding, I think the Straits Times report is not accurate. This matter had been raised in Parliament previously and the government has clarified that Opposition constituencies have access to and have benefited from CIPC funding previously. This is an excerpt from the SDA's website, since there are forumners here who do not believe in any government sources. This is a reply by the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for National Development (Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman) in Parliament on 9 Mar 2006:
"Finally, Mr Chiam asked again and pleaded that the Government not be discriminatory against Opposition MPs with regard to CIPC funds. Let me just reiterate again that the objective of CIPC funding is to improve the infrastructure, recreational facilities and general amenities of the whole constituency. The budget is limited and is allocated to the Citizens' Consultative Committees (CCCs) based on the merits of the projects that they proposed. This is because the CCCs interact closely with residents and are, therefore, in a good position to assess the needs of their residents. In response to Mr Chiam's point that we are being unfair to the Opposition MPs because we give PAP MPs CIPC funds, we do not give PAP MPs CIPC funds. CIPC funds are give to the CCCs to operate the proposed projects for improvements in the constituencies. These projects are then presented to the CIPC Committee which will then evaluate the proposals. Town Councils are responsible for the management and maintenance of the common areas in HDB estates. So if Town Councils wish to put up their improvement projects in their estates they can do so using their Town Council fund.
The Chairman: Yes, Mr Chiam. Please make it short.
Mr Chiam See Tong: Sir, the Parliamentary Secretary clearly knows that Opposition wards do not have grassroots. In that case, does it mean that we shall never get CIPC funds at all?

Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman: I have not answered, but I think the House has answered on my behalf. Sir, Opposition wards have got Citizens' Consultative Committees. It is not true that Opposition wards like Potong Pasir have not received CIPC funding. As recent as 2004, CIPC funds have been allocated to Potong Pasir to the amount of $71,000 to build children's playgrounds as well as related facilities around it as proposed by the CCC.
Let me reiterate again that the CIPC funds are for Singaporeans. Mr Chiam mentioned earlier that Singaporeans in Opposition wards like Potong Pasir are deprived of the funds. They are not deprived of the funds. The CCC can put up the proposal, which they have, and it has been approved before. So it is not right to say that Singaporeans who do National Service, pay taxes, living in Opposition ward, do not get what Singaporeans who live elsewhere can get."
Therefore, it is up to the Opposition MPs to do some work and get their CCCs to propose plans to build ramps and other facilities for the elderly. They have access to CIPC funds if their CCCs will put up a viable proposal. Of course, this will not cover the lift upgrading projects, which Chiam had previously said he could fund -
