but this is a lesson to us all ..... we all need to be financially independent in our golden years, and cannot depend on our children to support us. Having children who are successful professionals but unwilling to support their children is one thing, there are plenty of examples too where the children are barely making ends meet supporting themselves AND their own children ....
I'll repay my parents for everything that they have given me of course, but I won't want to saddle my children with the expectations of supporting me and my wifey in our golden years ... -
This rather sad article as Case in Point; is it still worthwhile, or can the gov seriously believe that having children, will ensure we're taken cared of in our golden years???
Yes, I believe some will say it is an ISOLATED CASE...
But I think, if we dig into society around us, we might just dig up a pile of "isolated cases"...
Fatum's right that WE, should save for our old age, and NOT depend or expect support from our children - if we have any.
I certainly don't have any, and I'm banking a lot on money instead...

Quite a number people I know like having good sons-in-law because they treat the old folks like their own fathers. -

The son is caught between his wife and his mother. Although we do not know the full facts, it appears that there has been a great deal of conflict between his wife and his mother.
It would have been better for him to have moved out to a property of his own, which I am sure he can afford. Sometimes the best way to keep a big happy family is to have some individual space. The son is utterly wrong to evict his mother and block her access to the grandchildren.
Perhaps it is time to enact legislation to allow grandparents access to their grandchildren in the event that relations break down between parents and children. -

The mother, especially at tender old age will faced alot of psychological trauma of being "unwanted" and loneliness.Imagine being alone celebrating CNY now.
She desperately STILL wanting her son who don't want her back. She still protect her son no matter what. WTF is this manz. To her, Kinship binds no matter what.
Though the son is caught between the wife and mother. He should at least give her some allowances and settled her lodging. He should at least visit her during CNY/ He hasn't done his duties as a human being and a son.

Being a doctor, he must realise that he must be humane to all his patient, no matter friends or kin or even utter strangers. What this doctor has done is definitely not worthy of be imparted medical training.
Children who have mental problems have the right to live seperately from their parents so that they can concentrate on getting better or getting on with life but this doctor is in perfect sound mind and has a new family to take care of. What kind of a poor example of a parent and he will be treated badly in his old age.
