Wrong. This model ensures that all parties are able to contribute to Singapore.Originally posted by justcooler:hey but the problem with this model will be that problems will take much longer to solve... sg so small one is enough la. anyway MM lee also state that sg can carry on w/o PAP
I disagree. A divided Parliament will delay the quick implementation of policies whilst politicians dig in their heels behind party lines. One of the strengths of Singapore has been our ability to respond quickly and effectively to change, essential for a small country.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Wrong. I certainly do not wish to see a total domination of Parliament by another party for another 40 years. The PAP has their positives, and therefore having a Coalition government will allow all parties to contribute.

It is more important to have the excellence rather than diversity. If opposition parties think they can do better, show us an alternative team and get Singaporeans to choose them in the elections.
Well, I certainly do not want a current opposition party coming to power and staying there as the ruling party for another 40 years. That is the gist of my statement.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:I disagree. Is this some kind of cryptic speak on a certain someone in here?Originally posted by lotus999:let me share with you guys the following story which i received in my email:
There was once an Australian federal government - I forget which or even when, it was so long ago - whose cabinet was so secretive about in its conduct of the nation’s affairs, and so overconfident of getting away with whatever it liked in this situation, that it took to contemptuously calling its own backbenchers -– and by extension the opposition, the press and the populace - “The Mushroom Club”.
This was a reference to the fact that everyone in the nation but themselves were, like mushroom-growers’ commercial crops, “kept in the dark and fed shit”.
Happily, however, this nasty little inside joke and the overweening arrogance and lack of accountability it signified didnÂ’t go unpunished for long. A sharp-eared journalist heard about it, broke the story in the media, and the resultant storm of parliamentary and popular outrage eventually helped sweep the offending administration from office.
but in singapore, the power does not falls into 1 person's hands ,therefore i son't see a problem currently, just that opposition has too little voices.they should be allowed more in the parliamentOriginally posted by abao:Disadvantages of a 1 Big Party Govt: Look no further than China's History
Look at all the dynasties of China. Would it be correct to say that every dynasty rise because of 3-4 generations of Good rule, followed by 3-4 generations of Bad rule from the same family? Even if the current leaders are good, it does not mean that the future leaders are just as good. Moreover, the longer 1 party or family stays in place, the risks of them implementing laws to extend their powers increases.
For example: In the Wei Kingdom of the Three Kingdoms (227 - 280), the Officals and King implemented a law called the "controller of the 9 grades" (jiu pin guan zhi fa) to ensure that the sons of their families will be able to become officals without the exams.
you know, I know, can liao.Originally posted by charlize:Is this some kind of cryptic speak on a certain someone in here?

Whether we will have as good a government as we do 20 years down the road depends on whether the ruling party can attract good and capable people to run the government. Singaporeans will vote out any government that is not clean and corruption-free as we have had so far. Judging from the calibre of Opposition party members we have such as the likes of CSJ, it will be a cold day in hell before an alternative party can constitute a credible Opposition in Parliament, much less have a share in government.Originally posted by reyes:yes, having less opposition in parliament does push thru changes quickly provided who had a good, efficient and clean govt. can we say we will have the same PAP govt in 20 years time down the road.
let put in around, what happen if we have a corrupt govt that hide everything from us and there is no ppl to question for us in parliament?
you know, that's one argument that is simplistic and fails to take into account many nuances in Singaporean politics and culture.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:Whether we will have as good a government as we do 20 years down the road depends on whether the ruling party can attract good and capable people to run the government. Those who persist in personal attacks and insults do not touch me. They only draw attention to the low-downs that populate the Opposition Parties camp and explain the failure of their candidates at the polls. Who in the right mind would want to be associated with such raffians?
Call a spade a spade...unlike you, I do chase after shadows and see conspiracy theories in every news item. Far from talking down to anybody, it is the anti-government hoardes here that try to muzzle any opinion in support of the riuling party.Originally posted by LazerLordz:you know, that's one argument that is simplistic and fails to take into account many nuances in Singaporean politics and culture.
you don't have to talk down to everyone here, unless..![]()

Have you considered that by the time you see any conspiracy theories in any news item, you will probably be chasing shadows ?
How brilliant can you ever hope to be ?
Why do you not give yourself some room to be original like the Watergate investigators ?
At least we will have the opportunity to see you 'walking the talk' - in truly chasing the real shadows and conspiracy theories : as to why the First Family and this Government are trying so hard to keep a personal political control over Temasek Inc and the GIC ?
Surely you should know by now as to the Mentor whom the "anti-government hoardes" - did you mean "hordes" - are drawing their inspirational lessons from in so effectively getting a reaction from you to complain about the "efforts to muzzle any opinions in support of the ruling party".
