When Dr Mahathir Mohamad had been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize
I think LKY should be awarded Nobel Peace Prize long time ago.
1.Who shall be awarded?The prize for peace was to be awarded to the person who "shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding of peace congresses."
2.Who were awarded?
Nobel Peace Prize Laureates
3Has LKY done more than some of them?
LKY has done much more than some of them.
SG jumped from third world to first world in 40 years.
Besides the life of some 3.3 million citizens were much improved
in the past few decades,SG feed the families of some
700,000 foreigners working here. -
Please.. what has he done for the world?
All the credibilities that you mentioned are only for singapore...

LKY is a politician, a statebuilder at best, and many unmentionable names at worst.
He's not a international diplomat nor a conflict negotiator. Has he ever brokered peace deals and strengthened regional security(both traditional and non-traditional)? Nope.
Therefore he doesn't qualify. -

3.Read what they have done and think how they compare with LKY?
For his work for democracy and human rights in South Korea and in East Asia in general, and for peace and reconciliation with North Korea in particular.
(there are still huge army in the boarder and we still call peace)

and its Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, Ghana, 1938-
For their work for a better organized and more peaceful world.
(Why so many still killed?His son and UN itself were accused
of corruptions)
2002: Jimmy Carter, USA, 1924-.
For his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts.
2003: Shirin Ebadi, Iran, 1947-
For her efforts for democracy and human rights, especially the rights of women and children, in Iran and the Muslim world in general.
2004: Wangari Maathai,, Kenya, 1940-
For her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace.
(She planted trees,among othere things)
2005 : The prize was divided equally between:
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and its
Director General Mohamed ElBaradei, Egypt, 1942 -
For their efforts to prevent nuclear energy from being used for military purposes and to ensure that nuclear energy for peaceful purposes is used in the safest possible way.
2006: The prize was divided equally between:
Mohammad Yunus, Bangladesh, 1940 – and Grameen Bank
For their efforts through microcredit to create economic and social development from below. (There are 7 million borrowers.LKY has improved lives of many also)

dun think LKY qualifies for the nominee.. like some threadsters, what he did, was purely only for singapore's gain. if he wants want, he can get the sinkapore gahmen to award their own kind to him.. or better still, build a statue..which wasn;t it on a list to do things in the future for the gahmen??
