Less companies would dare invest in a country that do not recognise property rights of people and snatch them at willOriginally posted by FireAndHell:But it's good to hear that Sing investment to Thai has dropped dramatically by 90%. Sillypore will always be at the mercy of neighbors and there is no way out...
Only way out is if Sillypore blows up the soil foundations and we float away to some peaceful country like Greenland huh...Fat hope....it has always been like that and it will always be like that

very fair comment and well said. This is something which the PAP government never learned.Originally posted by red_amoeba:I think they feel played out by selling off their national asset to a foreign govt. And its not helped by the fact that the buyer is a heavily govt influenced company.
I mean, its one matter if a commercial company, eg: Microsoft (for sake of discussion) come in to purchase Shin Corp. But its another matter if one government comes to buy. Can you imagine if Malaysia governent linked company come in & purchase SIA ? How would you think?
Like it or not, Temasek is owned by the government and to the world, it is the government. It is the commercial side of the government that runs like a company. Heck, even the whole country is run like a company.
Its understandable that the Thais felt played out. If you look at Singapore, laws are in place that no one individual, let alone foreign company can own the companies deemed as strategic assets - SIA, Singtel, DBS, SPH.
Anyways, this is not the first time that our 'investments' have hit a bind - Suzhou Industrial Park is another glaring example.
Thailand's commerce ministry had earlier investigated allegations that Temasek had used a holding company as a nominee shareholder of Shin Corp to get around a 49 per cent limit on foreign ownership of telecommunications companies. If the Thais investigate and have conclusive evidence that the takeover was not in accordance with the law, they may well push ahead with their threat to re-take Shin Corp, and there is NOTHING SG can do about it, except file an appeal to the international court. In the long run, Temaesk may even write-off the total loss as another expensive TUITION FEE, one which we seem to pay for regularly, at the cost of taxpayer's monies due to poor and ill-researched decisions left in the hands of half-baked 'CEOs' leading govt-link corporations.
"Of course they broke the law. This was pointed out by the initial investigation by the Ministry of Commerce," Mr Sittichai said.
"The investigation has gone quiet after it was passed to the police, but now we are reviving it and it will be sent to the Department of Special Investigations. I think it will not take long before we decide whether to send the case to court," he said, adding that the probe would be wrapped up in a matter of months.
