Like Chee Soon Juan.
How about making the govt listening more to us citizens first rather than they telling us we citizens should do according to what they said?Originally posted by ulquiorra87:Sure we need a political reform.. But do we know what political idea to awake to? It seems that everyone is saying we need a change but no one says change to what
True what you say...Originally posted by sad...:a political awakening in Singapore is unlikely to happen now, due to ppl either sucking up to the garmen for money, being brainwashed by the garmen, for being too afraid or even lazy to stand up against the garmen, even if there is a political awakening, and the ruling party gets voted out, the ppl will still suffer becos the new govt will probably hav problems like corruption, etc due to the evil human nature, the ppl will still suffer

But there's a difference;
suffering without seeing light at the end of a tunnel, is worst than suffering but seeing light at the end of a tunnel...
Right now, I doubt anyone can see any light at the end of this current tunnel...

The main problem with the technocratic mentality of the government and civil service is that technocrats do not make good innovators and enterpreneurs, and yet that is precisely what they are trying to be. Perhaps our technocrats should take a step back and concentrate on administering the country and leave the innovation and entrepreneurship to the people. Only in a free and open climate can such things happen, and that's about the only thing technocrats can help with regards to these aspects.Originally posted by Sardaukar:The PAP is good,I will give credit where credit is due,they have rendered a great economic service to the Singapore people.They have done an extremely competent job in administering and running this country.They are a technocratic,highly-trained group of administrators who are geared towards efficiency.They are very intelligent and know what they are doing.
However,our political system needs a concrete balance against their excesses,such as the investment losses incurred in Shenzhen and the recent Shincorp debacle that cost us diplomatic relations with Thailand to sour.Their influence and technocratic nature has to be moderated.While they run a 'corruption free ' government,we all know how it is.The judiciary cannot be trusted,especially in the case of Lee Kuan Yew vs JB Jeyaratnam and Lee Kuan Yew vs Chee Soon Juan, given the judges personal ties to Lee Kuan Yew.
There needs to be a greater political space,and it can be maintained,with minimal corruption,as long as the correct people are trained and chosen,and the quality maintained.
In a way,PAP has been good for the opposition,as the opposition must be at least as good as the PAP,and the people will use the PAP as a benchmark against future government actions.
However,it does not excuse their actions against us,the people of Singapore.
Take the economic restructuring plans introduced in the last three recessions as examples.Originally posted by dakkon_blackblade:The main problem with the technocratic mentality of the government and civil service is that technocrats do not make good innovators and enterpreneurs, and yet that is precisely what they are trying to be.
