Students blindly helping to raise charity fund?

Last Saturday while i was seating down on the stone chair facing Takashimaya, a primary school student approached me and asked me to help him by making donation. I ask "How many percent of it will reach the poor?" He said "I don't know." Knowing that he did not know how much will really reach the poor i told him that i was sorry to help. This incident shows that the student is blindly helping to raise charity fund? Will you still donate if you know out of $1 only 10 cents reach the poor?

Don't take it out on the kid...it's really the responsibility of the charity to enlighten, and the school/CCA group to find out its cause.

Not the kid fault leh, its compulsory to do charity work. So can get it complete can already. who cares so much. And its up to the organisation to provide the information.

it is the organisation's responsibilities to provide true and transparent information. TS is correct by asking the pri sch kid for information on how much of the money dat is donated goes to the poor actually, but if TS puts himself inside dat pri sch kid's shoes, he would hav been too innocent to noe anything, and may be frightened off

People should know what they are helping and not blindly helping. Organisation should provide transparent information to convince people to help them.

blame not the students. most of them are there cos they are forced to do so.

i have always asked them to find out about the organisation they are collecting for.. never to the extent of the percentage... you don't expect them to know that...
however, they should at least know the organisation, what it does, and how they help the needy.. -

i think of last time when i collecting for *some AHEM foundation*, makes me disgusted that those money went to some pockets, not to those who needs the money.... -

Organisations, especially the teachers should let the students know who they are asking donations for, and what's the purpose. -

No body is blaming the kids, it is just the system that most people won't bother to question about. In the end you have many people following it blindly without knowing why. I hope schools are not turning flag day into a CCA thingy.
Charity comes from the heart, not from the desire to earn 'points'.
And yes, i disagree with the manner in which school children are being 'abused' to such an extent that those irresponsible jerks in charge of such charity events don't take the trouble to properly educate who and what institution the students are collecting for.
It's a shame that flag day itself is degrading into a 'saturday afternoon event'. The wrong message is being transmitted to the masses.
The commissioner of charities should step in and re-evaluate the way charities are being run.
