It isn't just MONEY...Originally posted by (human):If he love money so much why don't quit PM and go private sector to get more pay? This has shown what kind of people he is. It is time to ask ourselves are we ruling by tyrant or good statesman? What can you do if you know he is a tyrant?

Hey! For someone who is NOT pro establishment, I am supporting the pay increase. How come I don't see 66.6% of my fellow Singaporeans jumping in joy approving this policy? I mean afterall is THEIR choice right?Originally posted by orwell76:Honestly, I think that the ministers deserve a 66.6% increment in their pay. But for the PM, I think he deserved a 66.1% increase in his pay. The health minister should get a 72.5% increase in his pay. The foreign minister should get a 58.2% increase in his pay. If the increment excercise is conducted this way I think it is very fair. But I seriously have no idea how to increase ministers' pay who are "elected" by walkovers.
Don't you all agree? I know for sure that 66.6% of Singaporeans will agree? Right, the 66.6% out there?
Very well said, sir. But most unfortunately, their logicality in this matter, differs greatly from that of yours and all of us in here!Originally posted by hymn.of.the.night:what message are we trying to bring to the next generation?
"cmon, son, study hard and be a minister next time, that's where all the moolah is!! Look! The ministers' salaries are rising again!!"
We CAN'T compare private sector to the government...first of all. Yea...to attract the best talents in private sectors, it is wise to spend a big deal of woo them. After all, it is the private sector where all are free to choose. The private companies are founded from scratch and may be family businesses, of course they can dictate whatever they wants. Father wants son to succeed business, yea sure, no problem! Companies wants to hire top talents by splurging huge amount of money, no problem with that too! After all, it's their own businesses and the board of directors can make decisions themselves.
No doubts about that. But whereas in the government sector, every decisions they make affects the citizens in the country.what could have been a reason for a person to aspire to be a minister in the first place? If money is the only motivating factor, pskkkk.......he is not suitable for this role. The other factor would be his love for his country, to see the country grow into a first class nation, to see the citizens living well. Otherwise, where does the term "Civil Servant" comes about? They SERVES the country.
and yes, to use this excuse (prevent corruption) so as to increase the minister salaries is totally atrocious. Does that mean our minister is prone to corruption so easily? Just simply more money will lure them away from our government? It would be really sad to be true. So what if after raising the salaries and years later, the old problem is dug up again? Do we raise the salaries even higher? How high, by how much? Will there ever a limit? Or will they suka suka raise it again? walowe...cannot be right?
How many great country leaders in the past led their countries with a passion fuelled by the love for their country, the desire to see it grow? Other countries minister's or president's pay are only a fraction of what our top ministers are getting, and yet they still are able to maintain a corruption-free government. It is only a matter of self-control and the love for their job, their passion towards the very country they are serving. I can see a petition against this issue already....
Can,provided that they sell their @ss to the foreigners.Originally posted by Jungkwek:haha u remind me of last yr wht tt PM LEE say at e parliment. sayin that we citizen pick on job cause of the pay. An E.g he said, A $1,000 job is already enuff. Wonder wht if we give the minister each n every $1,000 see they can survive not.

@ Huge Disparity of income - policies have already been skewed to business
owners, rich,...plus effect globalisation....The sheer magnitude
it is telling the layman, workers, housewife... it is going to get worse..
@where is the Justification - bench mark to TOP pvt sector is fallacy,
KPIs? some opp. suggested with employment rate,,,etc.
Imagine increament of $1M / minster feed how many
s'poreans and their familys benefit too . Multiplier effect.
@Walk the talk - if you tell pple flexible wage should be implemented,
tell pple not fussy of pay..blah ...pay enough...then tell them
$1M not enough??
@Bad Timing - well most s'poreans r still coming grips to increase in GST....
by telling them have to increase the ministers'pay akin to
telling them "u should pay me more to make ur life harder!" ....
@Another contentious comparison by saying "bcos economy grow...,...
and proposed increase is peanuts ...how much have it benefitted
the pple on the streets... what is the nett?
No doubt they contribute....but so are the officers and lots of pple
that contributed to it...and also by policies...
and what if reverse are they willing to take on more pay cut?
@accountability - while not all disagree some form increment is justified, more concern abt accountability to s'poreans. For e.g who account the lossess of tax payers money for investments....? Dual citizen ship will only allow
the rich to run at 1st sight when s'pore in trouble...where's check n balances?
@Limits - what is enough? or is it never enough?
@meaning of good governence - someone raise good question
is losing our top brains to the private sector really a "loss" for Singapore?
if the minister felt more comfortable in pvt practice rather than serve
s'pore because of pay alone, should we stop them??
else no one want to serve??(n had to resort to foreign talents??)
where is s'pore heading? nevertheless, the press...the ministers will
come out and mentioned a few good things for justification....parliament will hear the same arguments and debate just like the budget......
S'poreans had to swallow this once again....![]()
