And yes, there's this habit of locals mimicking the PRC accents, even in front of the PRCs themselves! While they might be just joking and fooling around, I think it's actually quite rude, and it shows a clear lack of discipline, manners and maturity.

Actually when I was attending Quality Circle course many years back, I learned not to summarily label any group of people. Then, I learnt to get the facts and figures to substantiate the assertion.
Like:
These people always come in at the last minute.
Always make so many mistakes.
When asked to tabulate the number of these occurances, we always find that our assertions are not true. They happen, yes, but our emotions exaggerate them.
With that training, I no longer label people or groups.
Are Singaporeans racist? Are we too proud?
No.
You will get the notion that we are, if you happen meet 10 Singaporeans in a row who are racist or proud. But when you widen your net, that notion will diminish.
Keep an open mind. -
I wouldn't say Singaporeans are racists but like all humans do, they stereotype.
I would say that some remarks made are due to stereotyping which happens in any country anyway. Humans are lazy by nature and will try to categorise things and the thing about stereotypes, there is some truth to it.
I had my fair share of PRC friends and colleagues and they are very nice people and they don't fit into the stereotype of what Singaporeans tend to generalise PRCs as.
In fact, travelling to Bangkok with 1 couple, I think they are more Singaporeans then I am Might be due to the fact that they have been here for a few years though. Not sure about that 
However, I do have to say that Singaporeans are a lot that are quick to criticize and compare with what we have here in Singapore. -
i dont speak for all singaporeans.but since young i have heard many anti prc sentiments, about how dirty they are or t hat they have no education or are all criminals.
for a while i was in art school, i was also guilty of such anti prc sentiments.
in fact i was put in my place by another prc when my "jokes" went too far.
after army i was fortunate enough to work for a company that allowed me to travel frequently abroad, mainly china and the region.
it was the opportunity that made me realize that as far as beijing and shanghai is concerned, they are much more diverse and advanced than us singapore.
i feel that those who have such narrow view of prc probably havent been to china,
haven spoken to chinese people who are equal to us.
ok maybe the foreign workers that comes from fujian or the shanxi can be rather unciviliised as us, but why look at them like they are another species?
arent we chinese like them? arent we once immigrants comming here to earn a good living ?
if we think they are rude, what about us? we are rude too...
we dont smile to strangers or say hello or thank you, we dont know much about good basic ettiquette, what so first world about that?
u know some people dont even know im making small talk or jokingwith them,
some people dont even look at me when i ask them questions.
now that is rude in our "first world society"

Singaporeans or not, everyone of us is rascist in our ownhearts , whether we care to be honest . It's all a matter of degree. If we dun manifest this , it's only because we are ruled by our heads so that how our hearts really feel is ignored.
But here in SgF, it's like anything goes. It's a cowboy town where mayhem is the order of the day. We are absolutely free to express ourselves in whiichever way we desire and no one is expected to take it too personal. It's not like wad you think. It's like somebody's siggy as well : I'm not a bad boy. I'm only being naughty.........! It's a fine-line distiction but a distinction all the same okay?

Don't even have to say PRC. Among Singaporeans, most of us are already some sort of racist already. I still remember when i go reservist, one group of malays in my platoon called us "The Chinese guys". Isn't that some sort of racist already? Then all the standing fans in the bunk were taken by them and only blow towards them. When time to book out, they asked all to help to clean the fans and the bunk as if they are PCs or OCs. The problem is that there are too many proud Singaporean chinese esp around, go flashing their wealth, speak english but most of the times broken english (like mine) and look down on those who are not as rich as them, regard themselves as higher class people. Must study good schools or top schools, must go U and so on. And for those less weathly group will try to move away from these people and group themselves. Thus creating a "rich VS poor". We are all Singaporeans, yes some of us are richer, some of us ok and some of us needed help. We are so small in the world, if we don't help ourselves who will. Till then we might be under other country before you know it.

I keep hearing this assertion every now and then. I don't get it. Its entirely possible to acknowledge differences in people without crossing the racist line. However, yeah we should be able to talk about race/religion without the backlash of silly political correctness or at the cost of honesty.
I'm not saying its to be free of discrimination either, discrimination is important for some other circumstances. Its - echoing mancha, about keeping an open mind.
Are Singaporeans racists? Not bad at all lah. Personally for me, for every person adversed to my malayness, theres always another and more who invites me out for makan and gaming sessions.

Crimewatch case:
1. PRC hack into S'pore computer by sending virus and stole account number and transfer money into his account and flee to his country.
2.A nice S'porean who lend $700 and handphone to PRC who took his money and handphone and flee.
3. 2 PRC who trick old woman of buying fake electronic parts with expensive price
4. 3 PRC who use trick to make cashier give them the changes.
Some other case forgetten.
Newspaper case:
1. fake monks asking for donation
2. prostitute who charge into neighbourhood area for customers
3. In a interview, a study mama claim she work high post in her country but bring her child here to study to let her know the suffering here. What nonsense what she talking about bring here child here to see her suffer in S'pore.
4. Getting visitor pass and study pass, but main purpose came here to work or prostitute
5. Study mama bring relative child or other child to pose as her child to come here to work
6. PRC and other foreign workers urinating, drinking and making alot of noise near Jurong area.
7.PRC who get scholarship here went back to their country to say bad thing about Singapore.
Lian He Wan Bao report alot of such case everyday.
World case:
1. When they knew about Sars case, they never report and led to the spreading of virus. If it is not your relative who died, you never felt the pain.
2. Our Suzhou industrial was taken over by them using trick. Our investment money from tax etc) gone.
3. Our minister took an informal visit to Taiwan, they burn our flag to protest and S'porean keep quiet
Personal Case:
1. Friend's boss and friend's friend has PRC mistress. Anyway, this is a spreading trend.
2.Friend neighbour who from PRC claim they are students making alot of noise till 6am and slam their door very loud.
3.sister friend who are less educated work in Jurong industrial claim China supervisor bully S'porean. they treat their own PRC very nicely even when they make mistake but fine S'porean who make little mistake. They force S'porean to quit so they can recruit more PRC. So who are racists?
I not racist but if you meet one like that, it will sure twist your views. Never say never. Everyone have their own thinking, we can't force everyone to accept. It may backfired. Anyway, Foreigners may also misunderstood Sinaporeans and went back to their country and say whole Sinaporeans are like that blah blah.
It is lucky that s'porean won't resort to violence like other countries who kill and rape PR chinese who they felt a threat to their race. S'porean only talk talk and after that nothing happen, right? -

Unfortunately I haven't had any bad experiences with PRCs in Singapore yet... cultural differences there might be, but it depends on how smart you are to handle all these things.
For one I'm not sure if PRC contribute more then locals to the crime rate. We have to consider things like the percentage of PRC in Singapore and the percentage of crimes commited by them.
Also note we have a bias, everytime they mess up we will highlight it. But everytime a local does something wrong, we don't attribute it to being Singaporean, but that it rests on his head alone.
Just go to Stormfront.org, and you will see that the things they say about blacks, mexicans, jews, asians in America are pretty much the same things some of us are saying here. That they are social parasites and do nothing but contribute to crime... it's a real eye opener.
I have no doubt there are bad apple among them, but if you want to toss out the whole cart just because of them... hmm just join Shutterbug and his myopioc vision of becoming exactly the very minority that is demonized by people as ignorant as him in some other country then. -

I think as much noise as he makes, OM is currently quite irrelevant when comes to actually affecting Singapore, for better or worse.
So he's more of a paper mushroom... make a lot of noise, but quite useless at the end of the day. -

I think most Singaporeans are colour blind. Racism is not a problem here. Probably only a handful of Singaporeans are racists.
ItÂ’s more about the intolerance of the behaviour, the culture and the habits of the different races - or even the body odour, which has something to do with the food they eat.
ItÂ’s because of the govtÂ’s policy of bringing in FT that led to envy, fear, sense of insecurity and other problems between locals and foreigners. -
I would see it as self-centredness and ingnorance especially when they travel overseas. Tendency to compare the bad against the goods of their own country. When I was studying in UK, SGreans I met, except for the older or matured students, most in their early or mid 20s are much to themselves. Sometimes, when presented with opportunities to lend a helping hands to fellow students, be it asians or ang moh.. they simple do not really know what to do. Much like to mingle among themselves. But I also see ang moh not mixing much with us asian, at least in my faculty.
Stereotyping is I think most appropriate word to describe SGreans. PRC people after also human, you think only SGrean talk bad about them? I have PRC friends who are equally doing what we SGreans do overseas.. stereotyping otheres too, and right here in SG about SGreans. Its the same problem I heard from MYsians too about SGreans when they cross over to JB, KL, etc... tends to compare and sometimes, parents mentioned these in he presence of their children, then what do you expect their childre3n would do... same of old things about strerotyping....
I met someone from Beijing when studying in UK, he was left stranded too with no lodging and as I found out carrying few thousands pounds with him and as he told me more will be transfer once he owns a UK bank account. You think he is rich? Yes, he said he is so call rich in China, but once in UK, he is nothing just like us. I allowed him to spend few weeks staying with us as there was no available hostel due to term schecule screw up. and we often communicate trying to understand about each other's culture strange things we do in our country, eventually we jointly rented a flat with 2 French (guy and girl) and another girl from Beijing. However, it all soon ended after the 1st term when I came back to SG. They can't get along with each other and the French girl is so often proud of her hertiage always seems more superior to us, while the French guy with Nigeria hearitage taught something about black people in France and prejudice they experiecnce, but he was a food stealer.. we only discovered the day after he left us.
As for the beijing guy who studied MBA, he was cheated by the other Beijing students, majoring in Law...ha..ha.. He only found out from us when we were about to return to UK almost 2 years later in the market where I told my other SGreans friends.. lets forget and forgive make up and say farewell before leaving SG, afterall, at least we were once friends especially from SG, why make thigs difficult for all. His simple reason for vacating the house was because he was instigated by the girl which he didn't even like simply because they were from the same hometown. FYI too, when he 1st arrived in UK, his chinese comaride turn him away and left him sleeping on the road. A japanese pity him, allowed him to stey with him for few days until his return to Japan. At least, he was very grateful about us Sgreans doing him this favour as he commended and reiterating it manly times about chinese people in his own country.. He said he just don't believe they will help him if he is in his own country let alone in UK... he can certainly testify -

Prefering people of your own race is not racist.
Not mixing with people of another race is not racist.
To dislike a person who happen to be of another race is not racist.
Being nationalistic is not racist.
To hate an ethnic group because it is foreign to you is racist.
Hate that is manifested in various ways, exclusion, derision, victimisation, execution, aversion, detestation, revulsion, antagonism. The base element is hate.
Human beings are not racist.
Not all.
Only some idiots. Who just give blanket hate. It is the evil within them.
All of us can control the evil in us. Except the idiots.
Singaporeans are not racist.
But there are few who are racist. And they are dangerous
Current example is whats happening in South Thailand, where a few are provoking for ethnic clash.
We must guard against these kind of few. -
I have this thought of expanding this subject of racist with -- Ethnic cleansing.
Ethnic cleansing is a litteral translation of the expression etnicko ciscenje in Serbo-Croatian/Croato-Serbian.
I think we may assume that Nazi's hate for Jews were thing of the past but in our live time we saw the ethnic cleansing policy right in our Face. And the international communities was not able to stop it. The recent ruling doesn't really point finger to the Serb.
I think it diminish the moral authority of EU over the balkan. (but that is a different subject to be debated)
Here are My Questions:
1) Here in Singapore, Do you think if our govenrment and the chinese majority are ethnic Bias? In contras with the region. Be neutral please.
2) If our government practics ethnic Bias do We as people of Singapore able to recognize it and Stand up and say that is Wrong!!! or do we just like people in Germany in WWII does not know killing of jews was happening outside the city? "Couldn't they smell the DEATH? or even The Serb do not think it is Morally Wrong to conduct ethnic cleansing by removing certain social group because of their reglion?
what are your thoughts?
