foreigner being rude

  i was really upset abt this whole incident which happened to me yesterday.
  
  I was out with my friend at robinson quey shopping in the supermarket. When my friend and I was at the cashier waiting to pay for our items, this guy that was infront of us took out his things from his basket and after he empited it all, he put the metal thing that read " counter close" RIGHT infront of our things. It was really really REALLY rude. Only the cashier themselves had the right to do that.
  
  We were really shock cause we didn't do anything to offend him. Then we observed that he looked at the cashier in a rude way too. It's really too much.

  Was he trying to separate his items from yours?
  
  There is a practice of putting separators (some long chunk of wood) in supermarkets like Meidi-Ya and IKEA in between different customers' items, so that the cashier doesn't scan what the current customer doesn't want.

  I think its just a misunderstanding. In some countries, its a courtesy to put the divider so as to separate our belongings from others. He must have taken that 'counter close' sign as a divider instead. His intentions might be 100% genuinely kind, but from a small misunderstanding it could look really bad. I always leave the benefit of doubt for others. We will be happier that way.
