as of topic, IMPACT. i am only thinking do i have to subsidies the event in any form? as the ball are push to the private sector now, do they want it? if yes, the fund to get the race on and running. they have to pay for it. it bring in the money for them and i think they will, but if i need to subsidies the event and it do not bring in the money for me, why should i?
Good question, down to earth,

I am not convinced if F1 is a SPORT we should promote, to say that F1 technology is subsequently commercialized for the general motor industry is BS, but for the sake of money, may be we should just accommodate.
So, as the Malaysian estimated, RM300 - 500million will flow into the retail, hotel and other tourist market in general, and if we don't have to spend over RM 285 million to built the circuit, then yes, good business. Besides, with F1 the condos and apartment around the marina area will rise further, to 5000$ psf or higher, the shops houses in the area hopefully can expect better business. But who will pay to bring in the race in, who pays for the royalty....I know, Petronas paid most of the bills in KL.
If Singapore can charge a rental fee for the venue, the F1 organiser makes from the royalty, tickets sales, booth rental... and the tourist industry makes from the expenses outside the actual event, then we should consider.
In the end, if it is just increasing the popularity of Singapore, then we may as well build a few more stadiums and host World Cup soccer, Asian Games, World Golf Match Play, increase the prize money to make Singapore Tennis Open on par with the Australian Open and French Open......I am sure Singapore will be better known in the world.
