Dual citizenship

Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew said Singapore's current and future leaders would decide if the country should allow dual citizenship.
He said in a fast-changing world, nothing can be ruled out forever.
The economy is doing well and the country is more integrated into the region. But like other developed countries, the outflow of talent remains a challenge.
When it comes to a global search for talent, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore have the same problem.
But there is one difference – Australia and New Zealand have wide, open spaces and are able to have a more generous immigration policy whilst Singapore, as a compact city, has to hold out for the very best of the skilled lot.
Mr Lee said Singapore has been putting it off for security reasons because it needs its male citizens to do national service.
But it is up to Singapore's current and future leaders to make the call to change the policy.
He said: "I cannot predict what the future will force us to do. I was against casinos all my life but come to the end of the 1990s and in the 21st century, I can see casinos in London, Paris, Geneva and Zurich. When I was a student in Britain in the 1940s, there was only one casino in Europe and that was in Monaco but today it is commonplace."
In response to a question, Mr Lee said it was stereotypical to perceive Singapore as a country that curtails individual rights.
He pointed out that Singapore has attracted businessmen and other talented people who know the real Singapore.
They would have the wit to understand and know what they were in for before coming over. -
If I ever leave Singapore, I would feel sorry to relinquish my citizenship.
But I won't look back, and won't be a Singaporean again even if dual citizenship becomes possible in the end. Because it's the case of the country abandoning us, not the other way round. -

If they actually allow dual citizenship, i really think its a good move by the government, i think this is their attempt at retaining the top talent in singapore
and we as singaporean, should make full 'use' of this law -

plenty of other countries allows dual citizenships, so they are not going to check ...
and how is singapore going to check ? ...
plenty of our newly minted "citizens" have conveniently retained their former citizenship .... ask around, they'll be quite happy to tell you so, since they think we're a country of suckers anyways ... -
Dual Citizenship. Why dont they just do it this way. Those who dont want to do NS but want Dual citizenship CANNNN... but must pay Lots of Money and the $$$ is shared with the fellow NS Singaporeans maybe through TAx Cuts or annual incentives.
Anyway only rich people/talent can think of holding dual citizenship so just make them pay more money for it. -
I sure would not mind dual citizenship although I'm not sure what that would do for me besides providing me security.....besides you would not be able to cash out on your CPF if you remain a Sillypore citizen
So I say its right to allow only single citizenship so that we can all renounce Sillypore citizenship, thus avoiding NS and cashing out our CPF. -
i do not think the time is right for Dual Citizenship.
the reason being we would have problems with issue like MY. NS. etc. -
Should dual citizenship be offered, it will be for foreigners only.
Not for Singaporeans.
That's the way things work.
Everything is for the benefit of foreigners.

So all you Singaporeans, you can stop dreaming of holding a US/Canada/Australia/New Zealand passport together with your red passport.
This policy is to entice foreigners to come here.
Not entice Singaporeans to go away. -

MY can be dealt with by an exclusion clause, e.g. dual citizenship avalilable to all nationals except ..... then we will have another bilateral gripe.
Indonesians, of course, will be welcomed, and there another sore point.
