Do you think the ministers don't know that the decisions they made are not benefitial to Singaporean? Their pays are to justify for the tough and inhuman ideas they carry with them. They are being paid to put country before self, (so to say in a noble way) One day, if someone were to be able to justify logically how the sacrificial of 1 Singaporean life could bring in millions of dollars for the country of singapore, then he will be the highest paid minister in the gov, of course risking damnation to his own family for many years to come. With increase of minister pay, dare i say more inhuman decisions were to come?

they are selling their lives to Singapore so they must be earning more than what they can or supposed to earn outside. They deal with billions so the minor increase of 1 million is nothing compared to the billions they deal with.
How many billions are earned by their astute investments in shin corp and optus? -

I think there's nothing we can do about it.
the ministers should stop insulting our intelligence and trying to justify their pay hike. Just go ahead n pay themselves as much as they want. Get on with it. What can we do about it? Our views have never been consulted, so what's the point? Why grumble and complain? Before next election, they'll give pple money again, n they'll still be voted in. We can't do anything.
But, it shows it pays well to work for government, provided u are a top scholar only. Very high pay man. Seriously...
So just get on with it, enforce the pay hike and let everyone else continue with their pressured lives in SG

Well if " they " want to compare salaries , why don't they compare the size of pples nations to ours ? Other nations have billions of pple to share the " burden " How much pple do our country have to " share " it ? If they insist on comparing then the first to die will be us . If a country have 1 billion pple each pay $1 every month to the govt , of cos the ministers will have $1billion per month no sweat . But how abt ours ? Do we have so much pple to share it ? We will be sweating our bile fluid out of our bodies to produce the same amt to satisfy them . In chinese we have a saying " guan zi liang ge kou , zhen me shou dou shi ni dui " .

Well, he is right when he talked about comparing millions to billions. We have to admit that we have capable ministers and thus we are the riches S.E Asean country. From a village to where we are now, no doubt, i praise the govt ministers work. They deserve high salary or mayb increase in their pay.
But than again, we have said it many times. If from the start you wanna step into politics and you know prolly you can earn much more elsewhere den dont expect to gain too much in terms of financial from it. For the doctors, go open your own clinic or smt.
Pay raise for ministers.. Is that issue sooo impt right now? I bet we can bring up more impt issues to discuss . Seems like Lau Lee like to talk on small figures like 10-20 millions compare to billions..
I suppose now he talked about this pay raise, less than a month he will implement it. We cant do anything but rant , as usual.

1.we hv a mastermind wif the ultimate power and unlimited $
2.we are playin by his rules
3.he set the playing field
4.we are not courageous enuf to stand up to the almighty(i included)
5.we are bein sheepishly controlled despite hvin the power 2 make a difference
the solution for each problem:
1.ripped his power by stayin united and vote for the opposition
2.the new leaders will set the new rules and they are true representatives of the nation
3.our new leaders will ensure the status quo has chg to our side
4.we MUST be courageous if not we are forever 'nv walk the talk'
5.achievin wat i mention will get rid of prob no. 5

However, politicians are suppose to be in it for helping the common man, not $.

There used to be a joke (from somewhere, could be here). Singaporeans all have the capacity to revolt and resist (just look at this forum). Just that everyone is too busy trying to make a living to bother. -
Well some fourmites here talk about the lost of a few billions in investments being nothing to the government but heres a question any idea how much profits GICs create for Singapore annually? Is there any investor in the world who never had any failed investments before? I believe as long as the long term returns r there short term losses must be accepted. Its all part of investment.
Oh n about LKY's point that the salaries of ministers need to be raised in order to remain competitive, i feel that its reasonable. Well how many people are that noble to put in alot more effort relative to his achievable income. Singapore is small. True we need to attact such noble people to the govt but with a population of 3m how many of such people exist in Singapore ? Theres has also been comments that the civil servants r no longer as motivated and effective as before, perhaps the salary could be attributed to it. Majority of the population who are taking up posts in the govt now or in the future have lived the life of a developed country citizen. Just like you or me. There couldnt be as much leaders as in the past who are fuelled by the desire for country even at the expense of monentary incentives.
So tell me this cannot, that cannot, so how ?
Why not share a more effective solution
