[b]Moving on to examples from the sports world, the Minister Mentor spoke of how top tennis players and famous footballers such as Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane were paid handsomely for their talent.
That, he said, was the key to producing champions.

how wrong a comparision. i think the comparison is david beckham of madrid. paid millions but won nothing. when his millions no longer satisfy his desire, he left for america. sound familiar with our minister and top civil servants.
those who wana leave , please do so. even my daughter have to become maid so be it. as long as we dont rob anyone like our very govt do to us!!

Did the senile-afflicted bloke tell you the bulk of Roger Federer's income comes from prize money? In other words, what Federer earns isn't assured - he has to win tournaments to earn his keep, unlike others who are assured of a basic keep regardless of their ineptitude...Originally posted by reyes:[b]Moving on to examples from the sports world, the Minister Mentor spoke of how top tennis players and famous footballers such as Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane were paid handsomely for their talent.

This paragraph just sums up one point - if the fascists(who are effectively the top level management of Singapore Inc) were top level management material at Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs, do you think they'd still remain in public service?Originally posted by VivId CrItiQuE:pls do not give me that crap about "service to the nation", unless u've never complained about national service. how many pple will be so noble to forgo a higher salary elsewhere and stick wif the government? are you one of them? y do the outstanding graduates choose to join MNCs and not a GLC? simply because MNCs pay better! so pls, unless u haf a better plan to retain talents in the public service without raising remuneration, pls keep quiet and stop whining.

hmmm.. u haf a point dere. but if u do some maths rite, our minister's pay is like juz a couple of dollars per year from each person in the workforce. does it realli make a big difference to any1's life?Originally posted by walesa:This paragraph just sums up one point - if the fascists(who are effectively the top level management of Singapore Inc) were top level management material at Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs, do you think they'd still remain in public service?
Goldman Sachs' CEO had a USD53million bonus for 2006, while the top dog in the civil service only commanded SGD1.9million per annum - you do the maths and work out if this lot are as capable as some senile-ridden folk claims they're...![]()

don't ask us. ask the ppl in social service who r willing to go all out for ppl despite the miserable pay. ask them what motivate them to work. ask volunteers why they r willing to spend their time to do something for free. ask monks why they took the tonsure. ask evangelist why they are willing to spread the word of god.Originally posted by VivId CrItiQuE:i realised one thing, anti-pap gang love to flame pple.. haha..

after making u ask so many q i hope tat u understand that money is not the only motivator. without paying too much i am sure there will still be talents who will want to be ministers.
i do not know why u keep thinking ppl only become minister for the money. do other jobs give u the same amt of fame, prestige and recognition as a minister? i do wine abt ns for it gives me peanuts despite my sacrifice. i can easily earn up to 1200 as a factory worker. according to the minister benchmark shld't i take home 700 per month?
so should singapore risk everything we haf now, wif no guarantee that the "talent who do not mind low pay" will do a better job?Originally posted by NewAge:don't ask us. ask the ppl in social service who r willing to go all out for ppl despite the miserable pay. ask them what motivate them to work. ask volunteers why they r willing to spend their time to do something for free. ask monks why they took the tonsure. ask evangelist why they are willing to spread the word of god.

The point is not whether it's a couple of dollars, but rather, is that money well spent? i wonder what would happen if bush decides to peg his pay to that of billgates since he's a top earner in his industry.Originally posted by walesa:At the end of the day, I don't think anyone begrudges what Bill Gates earns as the chairman of Microsoft or what Tiger Woods and Roger Federer earn as prize money for the tournaments they win because that's money deserved and it's not an amount they could simply authorise to pay themselves at a whim. That said, it's quite another thing altogether for criminals to go round paying themselves what they fancy as they deem fit...![]()

Originally posted by VivId CrItiQuE:A price tag is only a piece of paper pasted on the item. How can you equate a high price with the actual quality of the item? I.e If I pasted a $1 price tag on a piece of diamond, most people will not have the intelligence to purchase it... only an accomplished jeweler who happen to see the item will know that it is a real diamond and rejoice at such a find. Thus you have to actually examine the item carefully to determine its real value. Similarly, talents need to be groomed carefully with the proper values and capabilities. You do not give anybody heavy responsibility without first testing that persons abilities. It is always start from small tasks then move on to bigger tasks.

Bush has enough trouble trying to negotiate his way out of quagmires in Congress, much less ask for a pay increment...Originally posted by OO_OO_OO:i wonder what would happen if bush decides to peg his pay to that of billgates since he's a top earner in his industry.
we are truly uniquely singapore since we're the only ones who do what others wont.
