While i agree our police are not the force it should be under Wong Kan Seng, i venture to think they certainly do more than take down a change in address...Originally posted by robertteh:I have happened to know that a neighbourhood policeman who took down particulars like change of address is paid over S$2,500.00 pm. In the private sector such custom service officer will be paid at most S$1,500.00 pm without 28 days annual leave/
Now let us check: is the teacher overpaid? Is a property or town council manager overpaid? Is the car park supervisor overpaid?
A cursory survey should show that the regular teacher with some 10 years' teaching experience is paid S$8,000.00 pm whereas an adjunct teacher (same experience) is only paid S$2,000.00 pm. MOE knows of this fact and is now engaging large number of adjunct teachers not because of pays but because many adjunct teachers are doing a better job in imparting knowledge to the children

[b]Are they comparing apples to apples?
Police Officers have at least 32 days of leave, when others are still leaving on 18 days. The argument of 24-hr standby is totally irrelevant as they aren't always recalled (can compensate with off-days anyway), and the policy applies to policemen doing office-hour staff work as well. Almost definitely, our men-in-blue do not face much 'dangerous' actions on the streets as foreign police forces like HK and Msia.

44. The Home Affairs Uniformed Services, comprising the Police, Prisons, Civil Defence and Narcotics services, are lagging their benchmarks by up to 26% in certain grades. As the gap is large, these services require major adjustments. These services are now dealing with more complex and challenging tasks given the threat of terrorism and the increased security measures required. We need to pay our home team officers competitively, so that the uniformed services will be well-staffed, and able to address any emergency. The first step of this adjustment will be carried out now, amounting to 10-13%.
