But seriously, a president's job is definately not easy (confirm not easier than just waving one's hand)...but still, I don't see a need for a $3.2m salary per year

Is the previous amount insufficient? which is about 2mil+/yr
Why do they need so much money?
They said increasing the salary helps prevent corruption.
Let us stop to think, isnt corruption about personal intergrity? Must pamper them with money so as to prevent them frm getting corrupted? This statement might not totally be wrong if the salary of these ppl are UNDER paid. However, i should think that it is more than enough. Hence all i can see behind this purpose is greediness.
I seriously wonder if the 2% increment in gst funds their newly increase pay. -

1) He forget to go to the National Stadium on the 9 Aug.... who will give the "super order" for the march pass har?
So is he important?
2) Who will entertain the foreign vistors or delegates? Who will shake their hands and say the magic words "Welcome to Singapore... I am the President of Singapore and I am pleased to see you and I represent the people of Singapore to welcome you..."
So is he important?
3) Every year after the GE... he sit down there throughout the ceremony for the "newly elected ministries and cabinet" (actually it is the same batch of old boys and gals) to take the oath...
If he is not there... then how...
So is he important...?
Just by the above few examples... he is damn important to us... without him... we are like a small boat in the roughest storm without seeing the lighthouse... -

actually in singapore.. a president's job is easy... cos singapore president have very little say or control in those decisions that the prime ministers make.. he jus only nid to approve of what plans they have come out with.. it only the prime ministers who are working hard.. that y i don tik there is a need for them to get so much salary in a yr.. rather spend it on those charity organisations since they kip asking poor pple like us to donate.. -

Pres Ong Teng Cheong would deserve a 3M $ salary because he dared to question the Government about the reserves and demanded to see the books.
Of course in doing his duty, he got into trouble with ministers and the boss. In the end Pres Ong had no choice but quit.
So, now maybe 3M$ salary would get us a less troublesome president perhaps? -
We should have someone run for president next time.
Then say, "Oh hey, the PAP pays me too good, and I'm a so and so. Elect me! I'm talent!"
And oh by the way, if the PAP starts saying crap about service, ask them if indeed this is public service, why is the PAP profiting from it at OUR expense. -
