Singapore PM's salary stuns White House official

WASHINGTON (AFP) - A senior White House official on Tuesday admitted he was floored by the news that Singapore's prime minister earned five times more than US
President George W. Bush.
"I'm going to emigrate and run for office in Singapore," the official said on condition he be identified only as "a senior administration official who sits in disbelief after reading that story."
On Monday, the Singapore government had announced a fresh 25.5 percent pay hike for Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, boosting his salary to 2.05 million dollars per year.
Bush gets paid 400,000 dollars per year for doing his job, according to the White House.
Combined with personal investment income, he and his wife Laura reported 618,694 dollars in taxable income in the 2005 fiscal year. They had to pay 187,768 dollars in federal taxes.
But maybe Bush shouldn't feel so bad. The Singaporean's paycheck is eight times fatter than Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's.

Just like 100yrs ago, the japan king forgo his royalty fees to donate to the japanese navy.

I guess in Singapore, its only about lowly conscripted NS boys and highly paid ministers.

Its just that their gov has so many politicians. While ours is just a fraction of theirs.
So they got to pay ALL their politicians which equals to less. Since ours is little, use the excess amount to top up our politicians pay lor...

We are a little small dot, with 80+ MPs and ministers and a small dotty population of 4 million. They are the world's largest power, with a few hundred million in population, but probably their total no. of politicians is only a few hundred
Proportionally, we are rearing a BIGGER bunch of cheerleaders, that are totally useless, and act as chickens in parliament (not to mention sleeping ones) -
Those in paliament who are supporting pay hike of ministers and using the wrong comparision of politic and private sectors are going to degrade and worsen the politic culture in Singapore. Those who has chosen to go against the integrity to serve are stirring up public anger. Some MP even commented the pay hike policy as 'self serving' which many Singaporeans are feeling.
