huh? It was to "tax the hell out of its citizens" so that they can pay themselves million dollars salaries and "invests" in "SHIN CORPS"Originally posted by ulquiorra87:Maybe what the government is doing to retain local talents is to tax the hell out of its citizens so that they wouldn't have enough money to migrate.. So why are so many still quitting Singapore???
Lee Kuan Yew, it was “trust me and I will make you all first world citizens”.
Goh Chok Tong, the mantra was “trust me and I will make this society not just a first world country but a kinder and gentler one”.
*Shrugs* my dad once said, don't donate to charity, becoz the more you donate, the less the govt will do. They always say they cannot be a welfare state, so they provide very little help to the poor. They are banking on Singaporeans like you to provide the bridge to the massive gap that they refuse to bridge, and would rather fill their pockets more instead.Originally posted by CM06:Seriously, after so long i decided to open my big mouth back in speaker's corner. I realised something. Singaporeans like to all talk no action.
I no longer even bother to engage people who speak down of our government (robertteh, andrewpkyap, atobe as well as the other hundred or so of you) nor those who sits on the other side of the fence (lionnoisy)
Simply because of one thing. I rather go out and help the country in my own way than curse the government for not doing this and that, demand they do this and do that. Doesnt solve anything.
Those who quit fine. Those who want to but cannot quit .. also fine. I will be here til the day i die and i will do my best to help those who i can.
My stance is clear, go out there and do your part. Help your fellow man however you can. Talking on the forums is for sharing of ideas for better good not to encourage the manifestation of ill-will that goes nowhere.
If the big guy dont want to help you, you can quit, or help yourself. If you are well off and can help yourself, help others.

quitters are not equal to top talent. Of course they will always want Singapore to think that they are too good for this country.Originally posted by SingaporeTyrannosaur:The problem is that there is something seriously wrong with us given we are unable to retain our top talent, and are forced to import.
I think if that wasn't the case and our "quitters" did not included top talent, the government would not be worried about this thing called the "brain drain".Originally posted by Gazelle:quitters are not equal to top talent. Funny. That's what the Ministers said of themselves when they tried to justify their pay rise.Originally posted by Gazelle:quitters are not equal to top talent. Of course they will always want Singapore to think that they are too good for this country.
The government's concern is not limited to the so call top-talent, but talent across the board and by saying that I am also saying that that all Singaporeans are talentOriginally posted by SingaporeTyrannosaur:I think if that wasn't the case and our "quitters" did not included top talent, the government would not be worried about this thing called the "brain drain".
But looking at it another way, does anybody seriously think the current system of our nation truly gives our top talent the chance to shine?
I doubt it.
And who is stopping you to become a minister of the republic of singapore?Originally posted by Fingolfin_Noldor:Funny. That's what the Ministers said of themselves when they tried to justify their pay rise.
Oh no, the Govt doesn't like the independent thinking type, so I'll pass.Originally posted by Gazelle:And who is stopping you to become a minister of the republic of singapore?
Like it's more of a hindrance to personal growth, not to mention I'll probably get ulcers and sleepless nights from having to toe the party line.Originally posted by Gazelle:And who is stopping you to become a minister of the republic of singapore?
Nice to know there're more rational souls out there who see the political vendetta one is invariably feeding through those "menial" deeds(like those mentioned by CM06)...Originally posted by soul_rage:another point to CM06.
You aren't SOLVING any problems. You are only doing patching, which in the long-term is useless.
The long-term is to find ways to lift the poor or needy out of the slums, and this has to be done on a higher level, which is currently being occupied by people whom only care about their own pockets, and telling us that their million dollar pays and meagre assistance to the needy are 2 separate issues.
What a joke.
The National day rally speech focused on the problem of immigration by local to other countries and the figure given is 800.Originally posted by Gazelle:quitters are not equal to top talent. Of course they will always want Singapore to think that they are too good for this country.
The govt is already worried cause they kept on telling locals to be friendly towarsd the foreign professionals. Remember the immigration launchedOriginally posted by SingaporeTyrannosaur:I think if that wasn't the case and our "quitters" did not included top talent, the government would not be worried about this thing called the "brain drain".

what makes you think so?Originally posted by Coquitlam:I think there will be more quitters in the years to come....
As a quitter, if one can afford to quit there should be no regret. After all this is what the government is trying to do now - to replace their own local citizens with foreigners whom they could count on to solve problems.Originally posted by Coquitlam:I think there will be more quitters in the years to come....
There is nothing Sillypore can do about it. I know its so easy to blame the powers that be but that is the truth. There are some disadvantages that this country can never overturn but they can sure try to improve other glaring disadvantages that this little red dot has....For all the plus points that this country has, its just superficial....
I am a quitter and am proud of it. There are many others like me and we simply do what our heart desires....We do not stop others from staying in little red dot so no one should stop us from quitting. It's our choice and we treat it as such, a personal decision.....It's not about loyalty or anything but its simply a freedom of choice.....what earlier threads have said is true, simple reason is globalization but other reasons though not so obvious are reasons every Sillyporean who has stayed in here at least 30+ years will know...its all superficial and if you tear away the veneer, there is lots of things that needs to be addressed....
So adios and so long
Many reasons make me think...have you work and lived and studied overseas? Do you know how our system really work here....go count the number if disillusioned people here and those who have come here to settle down...do you know the stats of people leaving here over the past 10 years...Originally posted by Gazelle:what makes you think so?
I dont think we should talk about those who have left, but rather, what make you so sure that there is rising trend of Singaporeans leaving this country in the coming years?Originally posted by Coquitlam:Many reasons make me think...have you work and lived and studied overseas? Would appreciate if you could give a link to the ICA news release on the subject. ThanksOriginally posted by Coquitlam:My poor illiterate Gazelle
I never claimed that the majority of Sillyporeans wanted to leave...you don't need to compare against other countries whether there is a rising trend.
There is indeed a rising trend both from what ICA has released in terms of figures...of course these are things that they will not want to overtly highlight...besides its of no great importance to the man on the streets..It's just my own observations and also when I speak to emigration centres in Sillypore...they know best who are the ones leaving and how many each year cos they process applications for Aust, US, Canada, China, Uk etc....
Get real....more and more people will move both in and out of here...go read some books on globalization. Better yet, go study and work overseas for a few years at least and then compare as I have done
