Bill Clinton, whose economic legacy is unrivalled even by American standards, once said "What really matters is what you do and whether you decide to give your children not your own yesterdays, but their own tomorrows." In truth, it's hard to disagree with him and it certainly strikes a chord in this context. With a vast majority enslaved to the interests of a privileged bunch of criminals, it's hard to see much of a future here for the average Joe in the long run, especially when you consider there's still globalisation to contend with...Originally posted by soul_rage:I am seriously considering living too. After this pay hike fiasco, I am now totally disillusioned with the Singapore society.
Everyone is working like slaves for a few people whom claim they are talents but have no achievements to talk about.
the thing I want to emphasize here is that, us Singaporeans many are installed with low self-esteem, becoz it is beneficial to the govt to have lower avg national pay so as to attract more foreign investment (and more money into their pockets)Originally posted by walesa:Bill Clinton, whose economic legacy is unrivalled even by American standards, once said "What really matters is what you do and whether you decide to give your children not your own yesterdays, but their own tomorrows." I don't think the low self-esteem is the root issue - the problem stems more from the fact that many out there, especially those who are not that well-educated, do not know the truth besides the specious propaganda they're fed with. And that fuels a self-sacrificial cycle which benefits only the corrupt self-proclaimed elite.Originally posted by soul_rage:the thing I want to emphasize here is that, us Singaporeans many are installed with low self-esteem, becoz it is beneficial to the govt to have lower avg national pay so as to attract more foreign investment (and more money into their pockets)
Pls understand everyone, that we DO NOT lose to any of the FTs, more often than not, its a psychological barrier.
I understand that after I left that Singapore company. Our value is much higher than what our govt claims, so pls don't be tied down by the lies that has been circulating us.
Do not accept low pay (if you can), coz it is only beneficial to those people up there, but is NEVER beneficial to you

Instead of just condemning Singapore system, maybe you might want to tell us which country do you think will be better for these lowly educated Singaporeans and offer the best opportunity for you to make big money with smallest amount of effort.Originally posted by walesa:I don't think the low self-esteem is the root issue - the problem stems more from the fact that many out there, especially those who are not that well-educated, do not know the truth besides the specious propaganda they're fed with. I think it says a lot that so many folks out there who make a honest, decent living can't afford to pay for some of the bare necessities - healthcare and their children's education being among these issues. Just think about it : would you rather be stuck in a place where you worry about not being able to pay for your children's education at NUS or would you rather be in a position to put your child through Harvard if he had the ability? This isn't rocket science...

Most angry people with an agenda are usually guilty of the very same issue they get ulcers about.

You are beginning to sound more like the call girls hanging out at orchard tower waiting for the white boys. I guess the only difference is that they have pride and you dont.Originally posted by Fingolfin_Noldor:And our country is without its flaws?

Some would argue that this is how the world functions. I mean, the rich are getting richer, the poor poorer, the income gap between the rich and the poor are widening with every passing day. That's how it is and will always be, we have to be realistic and accept that it is in our nature to outdo and outperform our fellow men, that it is entrenched in our genetic pre-dispositions, and is part and parcel of our evolutionary cycle. Is it so? Or are we made to think so? Hence, are 'quitters' 'quitting' as part of this cycle that they are falling broadwards as they cannot measure up to the demands of society? Or are they seeking another means to attain survivalbility?Originally posted by walesa:With a vast majority enslaved to the interests of a privileged bunch of criminals, it's hard to see much of a future here for the average Joe in the long run, especially when you consider there's still globalisation to contend with...
Or prehaps they have the means to do so to escape the cycle... the average quitter isn't exactly less well to do then your average Singaporean. And it is from the working/middle class that our system taxes and demands the most.Originally posted by Quincey:Some would argue that this is how the world functions. If anything they have the clout and means to do it, as well as to take the risk of settling down in another country and making their way there.
