We weren't deprived of necessary things in singapore. So why would what the government sector's business got to do with us? they can either don't take since they don't need (LHL can give away his pay increase shows clearly that he does not need it)....
they can "afford" the losses suffered by SHIN CORPS OPTUS and what-nots show that they can "don't take" or they can use the money they take and use it to pay for Singaporeans' medical insurance...
They choose not to... they choose to increase their salaries and build their conglomerates so that they can pay themselves high salaries... sitting in these conglomerates.
These conglomerates also kill off the SME in Singapore.... they are trying to make everyone their coolies with "encouragement for entrepreneurship " a red herring because they raised the costs so high with their "take as much money as we can from the people and don't give back " policies.
so the only way to stop them from making choices that are to their own benefits at the expense of Singaporeans is to vote in more opposition whether they are good or bad because this lot is certainly bad and looking out for their own interests.
You think they are good only because of the propaganda like the propaganda that Malaysia is unsafe and yet when you go to Tebrau City in Johor to shop, you find that it was all a big lie. -
Singapore may be SAFE, I tend to agree to this fact.
However, what kills most people here, aren't violent crimes or drug related crime, or crime of any rate in our country; it is the STRESS level of living that kills a lot before the reach 60.
So, when you say SAFE, it really is subjective. But comparatively, it is no different from crime ridlled JB, only thing is here; you can't defend yourself from the forced-policies from our gov, but in JB and elsewhere you can fight off a mugging with personal weapons, use of Common Sense, and whatever RIGHTS the host country accords you.
Basically, you are given the FREEDOM to survive the best you know how...and not be forced to become a scientist, an engineer or doctor at the age of 35 onwards...called Skills Upgrading...
Survival for the average skilled commoner, is the killer... not crime... -

Are you tell me that if now a barrier is bulit and no one can jump from MRT platform then it proves that everyone is happy If I chose to die by jumpin infornt of a moving car, then how Happy or not happy
NO ONE is happy with the Govt Pay Increase....... NO ONE
But to link the MRT Suicide Rate to the proformence or lack of proformence of the Govt & S'pore as a whole is just ridiculous....
The Unhappiness of S'porean over the pay rise will be felt for years to come........ hope the Govt is ready when the citizen shows their displeasure -
There are two sides to a coin - one head and one tail.
Under our system, all the laws and rules are made in such a way that our leaders and the ruling party will benefit from such laws and rules first before the citizens will presumably benefit.
This system places the party's interest higher than citizens' interest or aspirations.
Citizens will be brainwashed by the media controlled and used by the state with threats of defamation to present all policies and news as if they are benefiting them but not the other side of the coin which show policies and implementation are benefiting the ruling party first.
So when they say we must change certain laws or pay our ministers higher or highest salaries they say that will help us to retain talents, it will be "Head I win and Tail you lose" again and again.
So we the citizens have seen after many years we are being brainwashed into thinking that our leaders are the world's best and deserved to be paid the highest salaries. The truth is have they really succeeded in improving our citizens' standards of living to the world's best or highest. Try to look at the fact by conducting an independent survey. See for yourself whether our standard of living has like the ministers' salaries been rising since the 1980s. Citizens are now mostly earning lesser and lesser wages while costs are climbing higher and higher with lots of profiteering by HDB and URA and LTA below the budgets with more and more younger people becoming world's most educated unemployed with their jobs taken over by citizen-displacing foreigners.
When our leaders say that they must ensure racial harmony, they will pass laws and make rules in such a way that they will drive out potential good talents and prevent contending parties to put up their best candidates.
They will on one side of coin show that GRC is good and will ensure racial harmony but in effect - on the other side of coin - their attention is to prevent the alternative parties to present their best candidates or citizens from using their right to choose the individual best candidates.
In this way, the GRC will the incumbent party to use its organizational advantage as to bundle a minister with their weaker candidates and new faces while the oppositions or alternatives and citizens will be less able or unable to choose the best individuals in an election.
When their policies and system of government is top-down and autocratic we will forever have to listen to all kinds of concepts and assumptions which are not proven but presented in such a way that citizens will keep hearing nice-sounding thing that in globalization we need to retain or attract talents with paying them higher salaries. But look carefully with their top-down system they are driving away true and effective talents and yet they can cover up all problems with such utterances. To the people it will look like they are the greatest people when world economy or economic cycle turns to their favor and they could increase more fees and taxes they are good leaders who increase GST and GDP but in actual fact the citizens are suffering more and more to give them a better report card.
The whole benchmarking of ministers' salaries is - on one side of coin - to attract or retain talents - done is such a way that it will give our leaders and their own kind the highest rewards.
On the other side of the coin is that should they fail to retain talents, they will not be seen as failures of the system. They will be paid the highest salaries and bonuses and no talents is no problem. -
As ChingAlvin said, the grass is always greener on the other side. Those who keeps whining how bad Singapore is and how much they want to leave should first consider if wherever they want to move to will be as good as Singapore. And then there's the pros and cons of leaving too. And when you speak of how bad this and that is in Singapore, do think about it seriously lor. Is it seriously as bad as you think it is. Most likely it's just an over-exaggeration...
Our government might be doing some undesirable things that leaves a bitter taste in our mouths but we do have to admit that they are actually a pretty decent job in running Singapore.
As for the MRT suicide rate, it's just too bad that those people chose to die at the train track. It's the latest trend among suicidals. Really, lots of people die and commit suicide everyday. It's just too bad they choose to make a nuisance of themselves by dying on the tracks. Blame government also no use. -

Just like Durai's case... they feel betrayed and cheated because the money they contributed was for the *patients* and when they found out that it was for his benefit and it was all a lie, who can blame people for feeling betrayed and cheated?
Similarly the Ministerial pay rise... during election they make it sound so good and ask people to make sacrifices all the time... except that when it comes to themselves, no sacrifice and instead, they cash it in.
