Which Election Series are you referring to with your remark - "Most cannot even express themselves properly and clearly and even behave like thugs!" ?Originally posted by :Just as you have your way of viewing things, so will there be a thousand-and-one other such ways. I beliebe one reason the PAP is victorious all this while is due to a lack of credible opposition alternatives. Just take a good look at the callibre of the opposition candidates! Most cannot even express themselves properly and clearly and even behave like thugs! Do we want to take a rsk voting for these clowns? I think not....![]()

Very true. I see hardship all around. I think I saw an old man collecting cans. The other day, I also saw a beggar sia. Even though we have a population of 4.5 million and most people live in comfort, but because I see two people living in "hardship", I assume there is alot of hardship in Singapore. Therefore, the government should not be allowed to stand.Originally posted by NeoPet2:THE PAST
It all started with a man who has been able to put his thoughts into action. His country has been asked to leave the Malaya Federation. His “pain” is to ensure that he would show the world what he is capable of. He put into motion the re-engineering of a country called Singapore.
He is brilliant, no doubt about it. He capitalized on the human resource as there are no natural resources found on that little red dot. He played on peopleÂ’s fears. He cajoled them, he built fear in them for not succeeding and he promised them a better tomorrow. Bit by bit the pieces fell into place. Some pieces are tough, and some are not. The people rallied around, hoping for a better future.
Unfortunately, he found a weakness in his fellow countrymen. He realized that as people get a taste of a “better” life, they are willing to forego their principles. So he started building good roads, nice flats, clean streets, crime-free environment and etc. The Economy is used as a backdrop to show the successes in terms of $$$. The emotional blackmail had begun. As with everything in life, it started off step by step.
THE PRESENT
The Singapore today is vibrant, clean and safe. I did not mention “successful” as how do you really measure success when the billions that are accumulated are frittered away investing in foreign lands on projects like Suzhou, Optus, Shin Corp and god knows how many more. The shortfall in the performance of the Govt. is clear for everyone to see. However, the emotional blackmail is now at a very advanced stage.
The people knows the failure of the government, from the Ah Soh in the kopi tiam to the Ah Chek who sells Chye Tow Kway. You could always overhear them saying Cheng Hu this! and Cheng Hu that!. But why do they still vote for them when the elections are called? This is not only restricted to the hawkers, it also plays in the minds of 66.6% of the population. ASK YOURSELF THIS! WHO ARE YOU GOING TO VOTE FOR IF YOUR VOTE IS GOING TO 1) AFFECT YOUR CHILDRENS’ FUTURE 2) AFFECT YOUR ABILITY TO MAKE ENOUGH MONEY FOR YOUR OWN FUTURE 3) AFFECT THE BASIC STRUCTURE OF YOUR LIFE eq. CLEAN STREETS, EFFICIENT PUBLIC TRANSPORT, CRIME FREE ETC. You throw out your principles! We have become a “drug addict “of the environment. How often do you hear Singaporeans complaining against many countries they have visited? How often do you hear things like so dirty! so inefficient! so corrupted! All these are exactly what the government wants to hear. If Singaporeans are so proud of these factors, they will never want to change it, and together with it; never change the establishment too.
The current unhappiness over the Increase in Minister’s Salary stems from every citizen’s observation of the hardship that goes on around them. They see old people hardly making ends meet, neighbor’s electricity being cut, etc. The people are now willing to give their two cent’s worth of opinion as I believe many of them are now saying “enough is enough!” The emotional blackmail is still playing in the background; ensuring that they will not over protest.
So you see, the Singapore enigma is very interesting. I believe there are people out there who are following this development over the many years to see the conclusion.
THE FUTURE
It will be for another time and date.
Cheers!

Which Election Series are you referring to with your remark - "Most cannot even express themselves properly and clearly and even behave like thugs!" ?
Your final remark - "Do we want to take a risk voting for these clowns?" - simply reveal a meek submission to the constant psychological conditioning of your political values.
There is not only ONE REASON for the PAP's election victories all this while, and it is not entirely due to a lack of credible opposition alternatives.
There are MORE THAN ONE REASON for PAP's election victories - one is its hijacking of all print and broadcast media, and its mean use of it to promote itself while putting all other competitive views in a poor light.
A second reason is its gerrymeandering of election boundaries that attempt to regroup electorates into areas which are seen to be their strongholds, and dilute the strengths of the areas with strong sympathies towards the alternative parties.
A third reason is its political machinery is given exclusive access to political activities 24/7/30/12 throughout the year, and with total immersion into the National Psychic by administering PAP philosophies and pro-PAP values from the neighborhood kindergarten and child care centres, and Community Activities organised by the Community Centres that are operated by the Peoples' Association - which itself are manned by political appointees from the Ruling Party.
Fourth reason is the use of the legal system to stifle and bankrupt anyone who dare to bring up issues that will even put a slight tinge on the character of this government - even fair comment towards anyone in [b]Public Office is not allowed in Singapore.
The irony of it all is that those holding Public Office of Authority will give themselves the unbridled authority to search and raise PRIVATE issues that will place the Private Affairs of a Citizen to full public scrutiny, and done with total impunity.
Fifth reason - with a Judiciary and Public Security System that is based on the non-independent approval and appointment by the Ruling Party, anyone who dare challenge the 48 year status quo will open itself to the full force of a non-independent persecution system.
Sixth reason - the psychological conditioning of a talented population that was able to stand on its own feet to survive during Colonial Rule is now made to depend on the generosity of the POWER OF ONE to dispense good governance as a matter of privilege of Citizenship; and not its obligation to provide it as a matter of Political Responsibility to those who have elected them into Public Office.
The list can continue endlessly, but these few will suffice for the time being.
We should ask ourselves - are Singaporeans an untalented lot of people in reality, as made out by the POWER OF ONE, or is this psychological conditioning purposefully pushed to suit the political agenda of the POO ?
To answer this, you will have to ask yourself - are you as untalented as you have been made out to be ?
Are you a Political Clown without your own political views and values ?
Can you survive without the POWER OF ONE ?
Can the Power of ONE survive without the co-operative submission from you and I as Citizens ?

For all the negative impressions I have of PAP, one thing is true - WE, do not yet have a better alternative. Conservative is indeed the right word, because everyone's lifelong achievements are at stake, IF, a voted alternative party is incapable of stoking the furnace of Singapore's economy...all our earnings..down the drain... and it would take decades to rebuild everything again.. or ever...Originally posted by dracky:PAP keeps winning because Singaporeans vote conservatively. PAP have administrative experience in running the country; WP is inexperienced. Singaporeans can see that this is true and, being pragmatic, vote for the party with experience. Better the devil you know.
If you want a change, you have to convince Singaporeans to take a chance with WP.
