y are they so stupid to buy such weapon that suxs ........as now they might give us a go ahead for the US MLRS which is better in weapon accuracy .....weapon range.....and mobility.........strange sia

Because the Brazillian one has been tried and tested in the gulf war with decent enough results... its a respectable system...
Anyway, with just 18 launchers, i don't think they'll use it to blow up HDB flats... i mean... for what!? even they can't be THAT stoopid... u'll waste good rockets for no good results other than to piss off the whole world for killing civillians and escalating a conflict...
It can however, be put to very good use as a counter-artillery weapon though... if they have the hardware to find our artillery that is... but anti-artillery radar aren't that expensive or hard to find these days... and they can always go to the ruskies with their palm oil offer again
Rockets won't do a lot of damage if the conflict is one of maneuvres... but it will if some top brass decides to park a battalion of armoured vehicles together to refuel and resupply... or simply to G.S and drink coffee... shit happens...
the best thing would be to take them out before they have a chance to get them off... would save lots of lives and trouble later... -
i probably opt for a first strike when the ships are berthed at the shipyard or something...get the NDU to place charges and sink them first...

speaking abt the gulf war i can say the US MLRS gains more respect. However abt the norther strike southers issue...i believe MLRS will take part majorly.I will say, the MLRS will be located in different locations along the cleared forest of johore. I believe they will wack of the sembawang AB , changi naval,Tuas naval, Pulau Tekong and Gombak facilities first. Upon doing so, the MiG29s will try to patrol the sky ,and at the same time,the next volley of piecing sabot will be aim at the Tengah AB and the Paya Lebar AB , i believe to efficently win this war,the second salvo have to take place as soon as the first salvo flyes( the rocket they use may use may containing bomblets with delayed fuses , the one use intentsively in the gulf war ).Upon doing so THEY CONTROL THE AIR.Very soon , lim chu kang camp will be destroyed to weaken our SAM and armour capabilty........and Khatabit(dun know how to spell, the one with the FH 2000 ) , hendon camp, and bedok camp will be molested too.By the time, malaysia may sent naval commandos to pulau tekong and Ubin for forward obsevation.Then at the same time trying to block the trade route ( by subs)and air route(by MiGs) into singapore. Power Station may be destroyed by the Hornets (i dun think they willl do so, as if they will want to take over spore......with their situation, i dun think they want singapore to run on palm oil), then so is the NEWATER plant.With that we die liao.......infantry can enter......T-90s and enter..........with all this they control all offensive structure in spore with the first salvo, then they control all defence and pro-offensive structure of singapore with the second salvo, then recon will enter to have a closer look, then their bugs may destroy our energy or water supply trying to enforce psychological effect on our pple, then infantry may enter to eliminate all oppositing factors (if the ppls is loyal) then by controling the main economic area.......sok ching(more humane level) may be done. the ASTRO 2 MRLS isnt really that powerful for your info... yes it got great range and probably comes with submunitions... but its inaccurate and limited in numbers....
many of SAF assets have already gone underground.. including the command base, air force hanger, navy depot and many many other military storage facility... those MRLS isnt gonna be effective against underground targets.... -

it is quite prominent that the latest Malaysian defence acquisition is focusing very much on SAM.Countering these SAM could be a barrier,i wish singapore would just acquire ALARM from the united states and rape their SAM once we rape their SAM hahahah 
They will be using steyr to shoot our planes.
One thing i hate about SAF is our army Tanks it SUCKS,look at the SM1 tank like some scrap metal from dun know where........
and they are constantly upgrading....ahya!!! i guess apache is the saf latest concept of defeating MBT T-90 before they can roll into city hall...... -

Singapore used to rely on the concept of prolonging the battle until help arrives. But I think we had grown to the stage where we are capable of handling our own in this region.
As for those Astros, they better be damn sure there is no US forces in the location they whacking. From what I understand, planes and troops rotate through SG frequently. Under their ROE, I am sure they can shoot back too. No bets whose those forces in SG is on when somebody shooting at them.
Mig-29 Patrolling the skys?....My foot! Astros hitting so many locations and causing significant damage...and not taken out?...pls lar....Give us some credit lar. -
u are right man!!US often sail or dock huge ships in singapore water and planes often pass-by to restock their supplies.....if malaysia starts a war i believe US pressure will prevent Malaysia from launch their Astro at US,if they hit one C130 and kill several US personnel hahahaha next morning Malaysia will be wasteland like US nevada hehehehe (just kidding)

foxtrout8's post is extremely one-sided (i did not say biased). He did not at all mention Singapore's defence with regards to the points he are making. Sure, MLRS is fearsome, but you cannot win a war with it. What you gonna do? Keep rocketing the opposing country? sooner or later the rockets will run out, by that time i think half of Johor will be overrun by Singapore already.

Who stated that the astros 2 sucks? Once again you did not interpret the messages correctly. An MLRS system in itself is a very fearful weapon. u all are right, with the US in place..we are generally safe......however..........there are some points which i must state......wat can awacs do when their base are destroyed.....by the way awacs cant detect ground movement that well and it will be shit if the ground receivers are being eliminated.......abt the ELINT.....haha.......got loopholes one leh.........USA cant detect an attack from Osama and now with report that the pentagon may had been strike with a cruisemissile not a plane......IF malaysia puts its MRLS in johor.. i am pretty sure... our FH2000 as well as many other equipement, units and troops wont be in their camps....

If Malaysia does site their MLRS at Johor, the MLRS can be taken out by Singapore's FHs. Napalm? I believe thats a figuarative used by the poster. However I won't be surprised if we do have napalms, it is considered a conventional weapon. In order to really stop the RSAF from taking off, Malaysia would have to strike at every straight road which is more than 2 km long. Does that make sense to them? Actually we have already stated many relevant points about Singapore's defence. I am sorry but i cannot agree with your "if singapore is caught napping" scenario. Nobody in their right mind would strike another country "from nothing". Before a war there will always be severe political fallouts between 2 countries, or inherent geopolitical reasons (ie. Isreal).

by the way, singapore has Paveway 2 laser-guided bombs which are more than necessary to take out military bases of Malaysia
and people, yes, there is generally a USAF squadron stationed at Paya Lebar Airbase on a rotational deployment
US Pacific Command's Logistics Office is also in Singapore( Changi i think, not too sure) -
however u have to go quite close to drop a paveway.........i hope the modernisation of their SAM will not hinder us..

the Astros II max range is 90km but thats only with the SS-80 rockets, I'm not too sure which rockets Malaysia uses though
also, this things max. road speed is 70km on paved roads and 40km on unpaved, so it can't exaclty shoot and scoot, but it is heli-portable (shoot it down it the air )
I'm also not sure what is the operational status of this famous aquisition of Malaysia's army...

considering that the announcement for their purchase took plase not too long ago (couple of months...) its not likely to be fully operational.
Takes time to train people to use them and figure out what to do with them operationally... a new weapon requires a new doctrinal framework. u don't just throw a new toy in the field and expect it to perform miracles... all these takes time.
even if it was fully operational cos they've got really smart people working on it, its very unlikely that they've properly integrated it. Its not just another piece of artillery... longer range and heavier firepower DOES make a difference in the way it should be used... and it makes a BIG difference if u want it to work as part of a co-ordinated effort with your other services... u'ld be wasting your resources if u used an mlrs like a howitzer...
and as it is, i don't think they've achieved a great degree of integration between their services yet... new systems will take even more time to integrate properly. -
i consider astro 2 90 km rocket to offensive rather than defensive.
I doubt Maf would annouces to public that they have ss 80 rocket.Even if singapore doesnt act Thailand will.Most importantly annoucing having such an arsenal would somehow directly spark an arm race.
Even if there is an arm race going on it is not likely singapore will suffer compare to MY as financially we are more wealhier that MY
