It means that there is no one really in charge of restructuring or upgrading the economy.
That also means that the past policies of promoting only the elites and academics can no longer work?
Has MM Lee and SM Goh any special or new solutions during these past twenty years when we see a domestic sector weakening with time and suffering from stagnation or stalemate as compared with countries like Korea or Finland ?
If they do not have any new solutions except to keep promoting their own kind of academic talents, then PM Lee does not have good advice or help?
If is better that he be his own man as he cannot continue to hope that the academic will add more values after failing to do so for past 20 years. -
They're just there to get paid only...I was just wondering what duties actually comes with their portfolios...

I met him and seen him twice personally in my life. Once, when he was fighting the Eunos election, back then, he looked so amicable, and friendly, and even wished us happy new year (we were NSFs helping with the 1 Jan elections). I liked him then
Not anymore.
During the recent elections, saw him at Potong Pasir, behave like the Lees, arrogant, conceited, walks in front of the actual PAP member fighting with Chiam See Tong, makes that PAP member look stupid and like a dog following him.
We lost all respect of him after that.
Anyway, I think the next position MM Lee should take up is EM Lee.

gabrament servants = civil servants = working hacks...
btw, since civil servants are efficient and honest (and goodness knows they are), then why the hell do they have to pay themselves so much and why are there so many of them to do the job?
to which, i can only extrapolate and come to this conclusion.. the ones really high up who need so many people and have to be paid so much to ensure that they are "not corrupt" are in fact, inefficient and corrupt

Currently, how many billions were invested in Russia, Bangolore, Global Crossing, Thailand, Shin Corp, Optus.
How much are the current values of these investments left?
If these monies were invested in starting up new technologies and infrastructures locally, will we not be able to maximise the use of our resources to benefit our citizens more?
Will we not create many more jobs for our highly educated unemployed retrenched since the last recessions. Must we still be so over-dependent like today on foreigners offering them so many benefits as if they are better talented than our poly graduates or ITE graduates still searching for jobs.
These foreigners might not even bother to stay upon being offered citizenship because they can see through the hypocrisy of our own government and not fooled looking at the way government is treating its own citizens. -

I don't think other big countries understand what MM and SM are. They probably will remember MMLee as the 1st Prime Minister and SMGoh as the 2nd Prime Minister.
If there is a Minister or ex Minister who deserves to get a residual income, it is MM Lee.
In other countries once a PM steps down, he really steps down and has no more power over the government. -
