If $46m is 0.13 percent of the total government expenditure or 0.022 percent of GDP, why not use it to home and feed these homeless, destitute or starving old folks? IÂ’m sure they have no more ambitions or goals for their future.
Just food and shelter and medical care will make them contented.
Pls PAP, let these old folks live out their remaining lives with dignity.
The current costs of living are sure to climb further after GST increases. Essential government services supposed to be funded by taxes were nowadays all transferred to GLCs which become monopolies and set their own fees and charges.Originally posted by tigersushi:I saw a very sad scene on my way home. Saw this old man in his 60s who stuck his head into a dustbin. Moments later, i saw him stretch his hand into the bin and happily dug out used drink cans. Then he looked at the dustbin metal ring where smokers snub their cigarettes;and lighted up some used cigarette stumps to smoke the remaining nicotine in it.
this scene repeats itself everyday, be it at hawker centres or bus interchanges. It seems there are so many poor elder folks around.Mr. PM sir, i certainly hope your donated salary could help these old folks and liberate them from living such an inhumane life of digging into dustbins to sell used drinks for scrape metal. thank you sir.

The normal household expenses is hitting S$2,000.00 pm as admitted by Minister Vivian Balakrishnan in releasing the extremely paltry figures on assistance to the poor.
In Singapore taxes paid by the citizens become surpluses which the ministers can claim as their success in order to pay themselves higher salaries and bonuses as seen happening in NKF.
The higher costs of living in Singapore were not caused by inflation or higher world commodity prices but are contributed by essential government services being privatized into GLCs which bought over the lands and assets from the government departments providing the essential services resulting in citizens having to pay to these GLCs once again such asset costs.
Public transport companies, mediacorp, utility companies have to recover all the asset costs when these assets were previously paid by the citizens under taxations.
If government does not make profits from such corporatizations of essential services and continue to provide such services like before, there will be no loss to the government and there will be no need for GLCs to recover such asset costs and rentals.
The citizens do not have to pick empty cans and dig into dumps to get at waste cigarette butts for a smoke.
we all know about the 'no to welfare' for everyone else.Originally posted by dragg:their policy is 'singaporeans should help each other'. they conveniently forget that they are also singaporean.
Thanks for your pleasantry and greetings but I am no sirs or aristocrat. I am you and them an ordinary citizen who does not want to see our country being run by hypocrisy.Originally posted by ShutterBug:Dear Robert Sir.,
With all due respect, but you sure have a very long breath to pursue the matter of how our gov runs and manages this country like some huge commercial conglomerate.
I have long given up hope that they'd ever change their ways of leeching every one of us averagers and lowly incomers DRY!
We should just leave it up to time, and the eventual repercusions to bring about CHANGE.
How many GEs do you think they will last?

ComCare Enterprise Fund
- A programme under ComCare SelfReliance
1 Social enterprises focus on social causes. They use business to drive social change. To help the needy achieve self-reliance, MCYS will re-position its Social Enterprise Fund (SEF) into a ComCare Enterprise Fund (CEF), which will provide seed funding to start sustainable business enterprises which are focused on helping needy Singaporeans. Such help could either take the form of providing employment to needy Singaporeans, or using the profits generated to run programmes for needy Singaporeans.
2 The funding is set aside for viable business projects. An organization that wishes to apply for CEF funding, must show that the core business of the entity is viable and it is not just a social programme which it intends to run. Profits generated from business are to be channelled back to the social enterprise's social objective.
3 SEF started this financial year with a budget of $2 million. ComCare has added another $1 million, bringing the CEF budget for this year to $3 million.
4 Applications to the CEF can be made, from 1 August 2005, at the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports. For further enquiries on the CEF,

The old folks are humans too. They still have a little bit of pride. Want them to approach the organizations? They are probably illiterate and don't know that such assistance is available.
old senior needy need not write any, they simply thumb print their right thumb, will do.Originally posted by justcooler:maybe to rub salt to wound, the 'Charity Org' may require them the fill in forms, ask tough questions, etc, etc..
