In my opinion, it will be great if the RSAF will take delievery of the storm shadow. This would give us a significant strike capability without endangering the lives of our pilots. Also, when the Surface to Surface version is developed. It could be integrated into our new frigates and even the future singapore Subs giving us a secondary strike capability.Originally posted by Orcishwarrior:Actually i onli heard that EF2000 consortium is offering Meteor RSAF

Basically i have no idea that RAFALE is also providing a package which includes Scalp and mica.Viper52 what is your opinion!!!![]()
The Rafale is cleared for SCALP and APACHE, which is basically a solid warhead cruise missile(Scalp) and a area denial weapon containing various bomblets(Apache). I have not heard specifics, but the general consensus, as well as what I've been told is basically that "technology transfer is not a problem with the Rafale", which would mean that what we want, we should be able to get from the French. Of course, let me stress, I've got no specifics, but thats the impression I was left with. MICA has already been exported, so I don't really see the problem there.Originally posted by Orcishwarrior:Actually i onli heard that EF2000 consortium is offering Meteor RSAF

Rafale for A-4s and Typhoons for F-5s?Originally posted by Joe Black:I think it is hard to pit Typhoon against Rafale in terms of technology. They are equally matched if not Rafale actually beats Typhoon in terms of the following:
1. AESA radar (typhoon still on steered pulse-Doppler radar)
2. Rafale avionics are currently more advanced. Typhoon will catch up eventually though. Rafale will introduce integration of HMS before Typhoon. Other systems are comparable though, eg. MFDs, Voice Data Input, touch screen (only on Rafale I think), ECM/ESM (I believe Typhoon may be slightly ahead, but it really depends on if you are talking about the German or the British version), etc
3. Conformal Fuel Tank - flight tested on operational Rafales.
4. Engines - about the same. Rafale engines have gone through 3 round or 4th roung of uprating, to the current M88-3. Whereas the Typoons only got their EJ200 engines not too long ago. Most of the prototypes were running on RB199 or the GE F404s.
5. Stealth. The RCS of Rafale is debatably better than that of Typhoon. In fact, Dassault did a study to indicate that Rafale is second to Raptors in terms of RCS. Of course, one can counter claim that the study is done by Dassault and not the EADS consortium.
So, I think they pretty much match up well. No one should claim which plane is more advanced. The simple fact is that Typhoon is designed as air superiority fighter, well Rafale was designed as a multirole fighter. The whole design difference was the root reason for France to leave the ECP/EF2000 project.
If RSAF wants a dedicated Air Superiority fighter, by all means, go for Typhoon (provided we can be assured of Amraam integration and delievery when the Typhoons are delivered, what is the chances of that happening - anybody's guesses) . But if we a multirole or deep peneration strike aircraft, I think Rafales or the Super Bugs present better options. Even the Strike Eagles look better than Typhoon (pre Trenche3 of course).

One factor that could work in our favour is that the Rafale has not really found much interest at home or abroad. This is not so much due to capabilities, but costs at home and politics abroad. The French government has spent a lot upgrading the Mirages 2000s to -5 standard, and that has worked against the Rafale as the -5 is a very capable aircraft, and replacing them with Rafales, at a time of defence budget cuts, won't be a very popular decision. This has left Dassault desperate to sell Rafale abroad, and a high profile sale to Singapore would really kick-start the program.
As stated before, SCALP is simply Storm Shadow. And yes, a sea-launched version of the SCALP is in development, so with RSN's purchase of French frigates, it might really be exciting knowing that theres the prospect of eventually fitting the frigates with this.
... I have no comments.Originally posted by jchantw:A4Su replacement already selected.... its the Rafale!
How I know? Simple.... Why bother to send 6 or 7 Skyhawks all the way to France to train? Why so far away, and when it is being phased out... why not go somewhere nearer like Aust, where we already have a training base for S211.
Reason is simple.... the move is a smoke screen to allow our RSAF pilots to goto France to assess and train up on Rafale... Otherwise maybe SAF has sent them to recon the sexy French maids or smelly cheese... Ha HA !![]()
