Any one notices that almost every one of his major policies are based on some unproven assumptions. Just go through his past 40 years of policies from 2-child to graduate mother policies and meritocracy he has not proven anything substantial with facts and figures.
When questioned he would repeat and repeat the same stereo-type assumptions like ministers will become corrupted or when citizens do not allow ministers to write their own pay checks they would resign and get higher pays outside.
Will Singapore going forward be able to challenge the globalization if the government leaders carry on leading the country in this manner - building castle in the air.
Even if his assumptions like meritocracy and GRC (other alternatives to providing for racial representation not explored) only worked to benefit a few elites of his own choice for the purpose of ease of autocratic control or clinging on to political power he still say that his policies would benefit or were responsible for what have happened to Singapore.
Singapore becomes successful today because each citizen contribute about 3/4 millions and many other sacrifices like giving the few elites golden opportunities at the expense of promoting practical broad-based talents and teamwork really needed for successful management. -
Just say and act what they want because they know no matter how they will win in election. One thing I wanna say is why don't they look at their declining winning percentage in election when they talk about salary increment/adjustment. There are many successful Singaporean Family with its Family 'runned' business that have thrived through several generations and spreading its operations across the globe. In comparison to the Highly Paid Ministers, the Family Runned Business is more economical, with everyone paid a modest wage, medical and retirement care - and best of all, NO CORRUPTION.
Would you dare allow yourself the opportunity of trying a change of government, or is it all talk and no action as you have been blind sided by smart and glib talk that no one else but the POWER OF ONE is capable of continuing to lead you forward by the nose ?
Is it so difficult to run Singapore with a firm iron hand towards any oppostion or activist that dare disrupt the status quo ?
The Singapore Police and Internal Security Department are well trained to support a change of Leadership.
The only problem is whether they will respect the Rule of Law, and allow the Citizen's choice to take office when the day comes, or if they will continue to listen to the outgoing POWER OF ONE, and sell out the Citizen's choice. -

Which MAN has any experience to make a space flight or land on the moon when the call was made ?
What expertise or experience did Lim Yew Hock, Ong Eng Guan or David Marshall or LKY bring when they first step into the seat of Government when each was elected into Office ?
All had zilch experience, and we gave them a shot at it.
The First World Countries did not happen to be in the First World by any quirk of natural order of Life, but they gave each and everyone in their Society the Opportunity to be listened, to be believed, and to take a collective risk for a better future.
No one can ever progress if we are AVERSE TO RISK - a remark that even LKY and his Ministers have often chided Singaporeans.
Yet, they will qualify that Political Risk is a gamble not to be frivolous with.
Life is a calculated risk in decisions to be made at every turn, and change to be put forth when time and circumstance demand change.
We cannot be paralyzed by fear of the unknown.
Are we truly a First World Country ?
Can Singapore be a Cosmopolitan City like New York, London, Paris, or even Barcelona ?
We maybe a cosmopolitan city insofar as racial and cultural mix, but in terms of vibrancy or the X-Factor, Singapore can never achieved the similar status that these other cities can enjoy.
Not as long as this nanny state exist that encourages Citizens to fear for the Future, and that the Citizens are untalented, and incapable of deciding their own Political Fate. -

Are they more so then some of the candidates that opposition had fielding last GE as well? In the new blood, I think they are on pretty level terms when it comes to credibility and experience- my own biases aside.
I don't think so. There's a lot to be said about the current crop of new blood as well, but that's for another post.
In the coming future, these will be the people who will be leading us, the old boys can only stay around that much longer.
So in this case all the troops will be green... more disturbingly, if we have totally taken out all possibility of an alternative, we are putting all our eggs into one basket.
Chicken and egg- if you don't give the opposition a fighting chance by giving them a proper foothold in local politics... how then can it ever reach the stage of being credible or experienced? And all the politics aside, the main opposition parties have fielded a convincing alternative- just that it seems we are prehaps too afraid to take any risk as opposed to the alternative actually being unsound. -
Sorry lah, this is a bias question. He had a team of great people and luck was on his side. No special glory for him. He might have contributed to Singapore's success in the past, but hey, Singapore is in the beginning of a perpetual decline. In fact, he just made a self-fulfilling prophecy that will start to show in the coming decade. Singapore will slip into the mediocre and will be surpassed by many regional countries. Singapore is lucky in its geographic position, right at the sea trading route, but how much longer will it last before things will change and Singaporean find itself a prisoner of its past success and a restrictive and uncompetitive society led by a bunch of narrow-minded, self-serving garhmen.Originally posted by soulwinner:One question for you can you run sg like he does ?
