the Gurkhas' role have slowly been seen to shift to counter-terror roles.Originally posted by fs3704l:thought about that. if something like the coup in thailand happened. the guka will be useful. i am not going to be activated to shoot at another singaporean.
They are mercenaries, plain and simple. Like the Roman Legions of old, they will follow whoever pays them the most.Originally posted by walesa:The xenophobic tyrant's feared nemesis - be they real, potential or imagined - was the primary motivation behind deploying Ghurkas. Try getting a copy of Francis Seow's "To catch a Tartar" - he gives a very concise explaination on the inner workings and rationale of how and where Ghurkas are deployed (his account based on the experience he amassed before he fell out with that thug).
and someone had the cheek to tell others not to meddle in our own affairs.Originally posted by Fingolfin_Noldor:They are mercenaries, plain and simple. Like the Roman Legions of old, they will follow whoever paid them the most.
At the end of the day, they will be deployed against Singaporeans.

They're merely loyal to the principles of a market economy - just that this happens to be a brand of market economy that excludes all bar the thugs and its cronies...Originally posted by Fingolfin_Noldor:Gurkhas are known to be fearless, strong and loyal. But serve blindly?
No one here is complaining about them costing money, if you bothered to read the thread.Originally posted by Arapahoe:First of all it is the government that hire Ghulkas not the PAP. Pls dstinct the different between political entity vs government entity.
When and where is useful. Encounter Race Riot and conflicts that could potentially trigger race or reglion attack.
It is deploy against islamic terrorist threat so that there is no majority rule where all the chinese ethnic soldier start profiling malay counterpart.
Look at the bright side, at least your ICT still remain at 2 weeks or else you will be deploy to guard against installation up to 40 days a year!!!!
So please think twice before complaining about Ghulkas is costing Singaporean tons of money, talk is cheap just imagine you stand right after the woodland check point with your M16 up to 40 days a year. Cheers!!!!
Yeah, it is a different entity completely. In fact, I'm even inclined to believe the government is also a seperate entity from the ruling party in authoritarian regimes the world over...Originally posted by Arapahoe:First of all it is the government that hire Ghulkas not the PAP. than stop voting them into the parliment. Please do not forget every 4 years we walk and we vote. Than after people received their little extra money from the gov they forgot who they want to vote.Originally posted by walesa:Yeah, it is a different entity completely. No government can be totally non biased not even the United States. Japanese origin US citizen were put on War relocation Camp during WWII. It only acknowledge during Regan administration. almost 40 years after they won the WAR.Originally posted by kawasaki2:Simple reason.
The gurkhas are PAP's private army. Just the same like Adolf Hitler's SA and SS in Germany during the Nazi rule.
Behind all the friendly faces in Singapore, lies a monster. An invisible monster.
Does it frakking matter what others do? Or do we have to follow every bad example others set?Originally posted by Arapahoe:No government can be totally non biased not even the United States. Look at the history of Singapore race riot, and look at now malaysia still implementing bumi policy., look at what happen to singapore after 911. These are not extremist ideas from History book to compare.....These are as real as it gets.
The only neutral element would be Gurkhas against any race all alike.
