Anyone please do share your view why we still employ Guka...

First of all, i have to salute to the guka troops in Singapore for their contribution to our nation.And i have to admit that i admire them for their brave and loyal mindset.
But come to real thing now... why our 'PAP' Singapore government still employ them to safeguard our country when we already have our own Police forces?
If i am not wrong... they are paid more if not double must be tripple then our fellow policemen.And not forgetting a lump sum of pension will be pay to them after they retire from Guka forces in Singapore.If i am not wrong again, our 'PAP' Singapore government also have to support their families.If i am not wrong again.... it's not cheap just to employ one guka because money not pay to him alone but also his family.Hmm.....
If i am not wrong, guka was previously employed by British to protect their empire throughout the world.Reason because they cannot trust the local soldiers or police as they might revolt against them and join forces with the locals.Because of the guka brave and loyal discipline, the British employ them to safeguard their interest in Singapore.And after the British left, 'PAP Singapore still employ them.
Past is past, i personally think that we are afterall not a colony state and... rather than to let them stay here, why not we just rely on our own local police forces?Save the money for the poor ... and why not?
Look around the world and you can see no countries employ guka except ....'Singapore'!!!!!

The Guka may have the reputation of bravery and loyalty to thier master. But is that blind loyalty? Will they continue to be loyal and brave when they know they are serving rulers who are tyrants or someone who is going against justice?

Try getting a copy of Francis Seow's "To catch a Tartar" - he gives a very concise explaination on the inner workings and rationale of how and where Ghurkas are deployed (his account based on the experience he amassed before he fell out with that thug).

When and where is useful. Encounter Race Riot and conflicts that could potentially trigger race or reglion attack.
It is deploy against islamic terrorist threat so that there is no majority rule where all the chinese ethnic soldier start profiling malay counterpart.
Look at the bright side, at least your ICT still remain at 2 weeks or else you will be deploy to guard against installation up to 40 days a year!!!!
